Northlands was founded in 1920 by two Englishwomen, Winifred M. Brightman and Mildred Ivy Slater. It opened on April 1 that year with 16 students, and three years later it stopped admitting boys and became renowned as the leading girls' school in South America. The school's objectives emphasize high academic standards while fostering personal, social and moral development, encapsulated in the motto 'Friendship and Service'. Miss Brightman led the school for forty years until 1961, after which Northlands has been run by a non-profit association, Northlands Asociación Civil de Beneficencia, whose trustees elect the first Board of Governors. The school approaches teaching, learning and life in the spirit of the International Baccalaureate Organization, encouraging students to reach their full potential and become committed global citizens.
Northlands prepares students to become global citizens and values diversity and international-mindedness. About 14% of Olivos families are international, representing 18 nationalities, and 18% in Nordelta represent 44 nationalities. Once a year, the school celebrates international diversity by sharing experiences and traditions from the community's cultures, including food, music, clothing and dance. Its International Community includes the Peer Friend Programme to support new students, Spanish Immersion, and an Exchange Programme.
Northlands School, founded in 1920, operates two campuses in Nordelta and Olivos for students aged 1 to 18.
