Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The roots lie in The Doll's House Kindergarten, founded in 1950 in La Lucila, which prepared pupils for entry into bilingual schools and established a standard of academic excellence. In 1991, under Adela Fraguglia de Landi, the project expanded to Riverside School with Primary and later Secondary education, adopting a holistic, globally minded bilingual approach. In 2000, Mariana Luque joined the project and the school relocated to a larger site in Acassuso, marking the first graduating cohort that same year. By 2014, the three pedagogical levels were formally integrated under Riverside School, defining its orientation in Humanities and Social Sciences. Today, Riverside School is a values-based institution guided by the motto "Love thy Neighbour," developing students of integrity and empathy as global citizens.

Community

Riverside School celebrates community and togetherness through events such as Gallery Night, Family Day, Sports Days, and Bingo Night. Gallery Night features students sharing their work in different areas with families, while Family Day includes outdoor games and activities. Sports Days are held for Primary and Secondary students, and Bingo Night brings the community together in a lively atmosphere.

Riverside School offers a secular, bilingual education for students from age 2 to 18, preparing them for Cambridge IGCSE in Years 9–10 and Cambridge International AS and A Levels in Years 11–12. The curriculum places English as a core pillar from early years, with Portuguese introduced in Year 7, and a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary study across humanities and social sciences. The school operates a 1:1 technology program from Year 3 and participates in the Digital House program in the Secondary School to develop programming and computational thinking, complementing Cambridge qualifications such as ICE and AICE for a solid pre-university pathway. Classrooms are complemented by a broad arts program, robust sports, and frequent travel and exchanges, including a UK Tour. Riverside's motto, Love Thy Neighbour, underpins community service through Love Thy Neighbour and environmental initiatives like Envirothon, fostering integrity, empathy, and citizenship. The school also offers camps, competitions, and trips.
