History

St. Catherine's School was founded in 1956 as a bilingual girls' school with 75 students and 10 teachers. In 1969, the St. Catherine's Club, a hockey club for current and former students, was established and the Tortuguitas campus grew around El Campito. From 1972 to 1976 the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was introduced in Argentina, with 11 students taking the first examinations. Moorlands School opened in Tortuguitas in 1982 as a bilingual campus; the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme followed in 1987 and French language exams began in 1988. In 1992 Moorlands Club acquired civil association status and representation in the Argentine Amateur Hockey Association; in 1994 the first synthetic hockey field in Argentina was inaugurated. In 1998 St. Catherine's School became coeducational at the Belgrano campus; Belgrano campus celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006, and a new Tortuguitas building with a science lab and display rooms was inaugurated in 2007; the Tortuguitas Kindergarten opened in 2014.

Community

SCMS Club is the hockey club for students and alumnae, formed in 1969 by Mabel Mazzini and Juana Gradin. It established a Tortuguitas site around El Campito in 1971, and in 1994 inaugurated Argentina's first synthetic hockey field. Moorlands Club acquired civil association status in 1992 and has voting rights in the Argentine Amateur Hockey Association. Today the club has more than 400 registered girls and remains a central part of school life, with ongoing involvement from players, coaches and parents.

St. Catherine's Moorlands School operates across two established campuses, Belgrano and Tortuguitas, with a planned Pilar campus opening in 2027. The school serves ages 1 to 18 as a private Argentine institution delivering a bilingual English–Spanish education within the International Baccalaureate framework. The Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) are offered, with the DP delivered bilingual and up to 45% of the senior curriculum taught in English. English-language immersion runs through the curriculum, complemented by French (across all IB programmes) and Chinese as an optional weekly extracurricular. A bespoke curriculum supports student-led learning, digital immersion, and the development of 21st-century skills, with robotics, product design, video editing, and web design incorporated in progressive technology education. Facilities include Belgrano Athletic Club sports venues for hockey, rugby and more, and interhouse events at Tortuguitas. The school emphasizes educational guidance, language development, and international exchanges, plus partnerships with Argentine universities globally.
