Caulfield Grammar School was established on 25 April 1881 by Rev. J H Davies with nine students. It has grown into a co-educational school with more than 3,500 students from ELC to Year 12 across multiple campuses. Australia's first rural Outdoor Education campus was established at Yarra Junction in 1947, and the first overseas campus opened in China at Nanjing in 1998. The school celebrated its Centenary in 1981 and opened Wheelers Hill Campus as a co-educational campus, with a 125-year anniversary celebrated in 2006. In 2023 Caulfield Grammar School and Shelford Girls' Grammar School announced they would merge in 2025, and Year 9 Kakadu Program was launched in 2021.
Caulfield Grammar School hosts a range of events such as International Women's Day breakfasts, the Principal's Event Series, theatre productions, music concerts and art exhibitions. These events are open to family, friends and other members of the community. Caulfield Life is the community platform where school events are published. Caulfield Grammarians' Association maintains an active alumni community with mentoring, reunions and clubs, and the Caulfield Grammar School Foundation seeks philanthropic funds to support facilities, programs and scholarships.
Each campus has an active Parents & Friends Association. They host functions for families, support fundraising and friend-raising, and are the social heart of the campus. Families joining Caulfield Grammar School are welcomed into nurturing and friendly campus communities. After Year 12, students join the Caulfield Grammarians' Association for alumni connections, including mentoring, reunions and clubs. The Caulfield Grammarians' Association is one of the oldest past student associations in Australia, representing thousands of alumni across many countries. The Caulfield Grammar Foundation seeks philanthropic funds to enable facilities, programs and scholarships.
Caulfield Grammar School is a multi-campus independent co-educational day school in Australia, spanning Early Learning to Year 12 with a K–12 curriculum and IB. Across Caulfield, Malvern, Wheelers Hill and Shelford campuses, learning is coordinated; from Year 7 onward, students access a program including Product Design and Technology, Systems Engineering and Year 9 Robotics. The Senior School follows the Victorian VCE with more than 40 subject choices; students complete at least 22 units, including four English units and three sequences of level 3/4 units. Acceleration options enable a three-year VCE pathway. The school was established in 1881 and has a rural Outdoor Education campus at Yarra Junction (opened 1947) and an overseas campus in Nanjing, China (opened 1998). The Shelford Campus will open in 2027. Boarding is available from Year 9 at Caulfield Campus. Facilities include a 50m pool, a 500-seat Cripps Centre theatre, and extensive arts and performing spaces.
