The Diploma Programme uses Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) to develop personal and interpersonal learning. Students may participate in theatre or musical productions, sports and community service activities, and CAS requires completing eight outcomes and maintaining a CAS portfolio. CAS balances creativity, activity and service and uses ManageBac for reflections and evidence. The program also supports academic enrichment through competitions such as ICAS Science and Mathematics, Australian and International Science Olympiads, the QASMT Problem Solving Competition, the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition, RoboCup, FIRST Tech Challenge and more.
Creativity is interpreted broadly to include arts activities and service-project design. An Arts Space is opened at lunch times and there is an annual Arts Showcase. The Instrumental Music Program offers group lessons and ensembles across strings, woodwind and brass, percussion and keyboard, with opportunities such as evening and lunchtime concerts, performances, masterclasses and performances in collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Visual and performing arts are supported through other clubs and co-curricular activities.
Competitions include Chinese Speaking Competition with Confucius QUT and Chinese Language Teachers Association Queensland, as well as the Alliance Francaise - Song and Poetry Competition and Goethe Institute - National School Film Award. A French Immersion Club and Japanese language clubs support language learning, and other language-focused activities are offered through the Club program. The school also hosts language-related clubs such as Chinese Culture Club and Japanese Readers and Speakers Club, along with related competitions and events.
On Friday afternoons all students participate in the Co-curricular Activities (CCA) program offering a wide range of sporting activities. Clubs operate during lunch, before school or after school and are led by teachers or senior students with new termly schedules. Current clubs include Cricket, Physics Olympiad Club, French Immersion Club, VR Arts Studio, Model United Nations, Japanese Dance Troupe and more; past terms have included Dungeons & Dragons Club, Astronomy Club, Film Club and Board Games Club.
Outreach programs and community partnerships are central to QASMT's activities, with STEM Scholars and Young Einstein Club offering after-school STEM workshops for primary students. The QASMT community includes after-school workshops and recognition for STEM outreach, including a STEM Scholars badge and membership. Service is a core component of CAS and includes activities such as knitting for the needy, environmental work and volunteering, as well as service trips and international study tours. QASMT also runs international STEM study tours and service trips to broaden global-mindedness.
Leadership development is a key feature of all programs, and the Academy's leadership team includes the Academy Representative Council, Academy Captains, House Captains, Science Captain and Ambassadors, Debating Captain and Ambassadors, Arts Captain and Ambassadors and other specialist leadership roles. Students take on leadership through clubs and house activities and prepare for leadership positions within the Academy community. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is offered with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, with Bronze supervised by teachers and Silver/Gold supported by external providers. Year-level experiences such as The Journey (Year 9), Leadership Retreat (Year 11) and Mindset Conference (Year 12) develop leadership, teamwork and independent responsibility.
QASMT's Sport Program offers inter-house, inter-school and coached sport with a dedicated schedule for Years 7–12. Inter-School Gala Days in the West Brisbane Sport Association provide competition pathways to district and regional levels. Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) experiences include Athletics Carnival, Cross Country, Walkathon and year-level camps and conferences, plus Year 7 camp, Year 9 Journey, Year 11 Leadership Retreat and Year 12 Mindset Conference, all contributing to a balanced, wellbeing-focused educational experience. Friday Co-curricular activities also support wellbeing and a balanced school life.
Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology (QASMT) is a public secondary school in Toowong, Brisbane. It offers International Baccalaureate through Middle Years Programme for Years 7–10 and Diploma Programme for Years 11–12, with a STEM emphasis throughout. The Year 7–8 Foundation Program provides an accelerated IB pathway mapped to the Australian Curriculum, including eight MYP subject groups with optional Language Acquisition and Arts. Years 9–10 feature the STEM Futures Program, blending core subjects with a STEM-focused sequence and a culminating STEM Futures Project. The DP includes six subjects (three SL and three HL) plus Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and CAS. Core teaching language is English. The campus houses a STEM Precinct with robotics labs, university-standard science labs and e-learning hubs, a Languages Precinct, a 300-seat theatre, music rooms, art spaces and sport facilities. QASMT partners with the University of Queensland to support university pathways and strong tertiary offers.
