Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

AIS Vienna offers a wide range of academic and intellectual clubs and activities for Middle and High School students. Junior Math Team and Senior Math Team provide math competition opportunities. The Beamline Competition focuses on Particle Physics and offers opportunities to travel to CERN or DESY. The Model United Nations (MUN) Club prepares students to study world events, debate, and participate in CEESA conferences.

Arts and Creative

AIS Vienna offers General Music, Strings, Choir, Band, and Guitar from Pre-K through Grade 12. The Strings Program is offered in Grades 3-12 with instruments including violin, viola, cello, and bass, and includes AMIS participation. The AIS Vienna Choir travels to venues around Austria and internationally and has performed at Carnegie Hall and in Oman. The Theater Arts program provides a vibrant co-curricular theatre program with Elementary, Middle, and High School productions and ISTA membership.

Cultural and Language

Asian Student Union offers learning about Asian culture and traditions in AIS Vienna. Diversity Club educates and celebrates diversity and multiculturalism, and fosters belonging. German for advanced and native speakers provides immersion with homework support and games. German language immersion opportunities are available for younger students in Grades 1-3.

Social and Hobbies

Chess Club accommodates HS students from beginners to champions. Dance Club supports expression through movement and choreography. Digital Production Club promotes skills in directing, writing, editing, and acting. Gardening Club allows students to beautify campus and learn through outdoor work.

Community and Service

Global Builders is the Habitat Global Builders club that engages in service learning and sometimes travels to build a home for a family. Vienna Outreach Society volunteers at aid agencies in Vienna and experiences community service with AISV faculty support. Helping Hands responds to wars, natural disasters, and refugees, and supports education materials and aid. Environmental Club promotes environmental causes and may attend the ChangeMakers conference.

Leadership and Professional

Student Council provides opportunities to debate, discuss, and deliberate on issues of global significance and to organize school events. Athletic Council empowers students to enhance the athletics program through committees. Student Ambassadors facilitate school events and help new students transition to AIS Vienna. Prom Committee builds and designs sets and props for theatre productions.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

AIS Vienna's athletics program competes in ISST and DVAC conferences across three athletic seasons. Fall includes HS/MS Soccer, Cross Country, and Volleyball; Winter includes Basketball and Swimming; Spring includes Track and Field, Softball, Baseball, Tennis, and Volleyball. There are no costs to be on a team, with travel costs applying for trips outside Vienna. After School Activities also offer Ballsports, Basketball Clinic, and other physical activities like Gymnastics and swimming to support fitness and well-being.

American International School Vienna is a not-for-profit international school for students aged 4 to 18. It offers a rigorous, relevant American/IB curriculum, incorporating the American Curriculum, IB Diploma Programme, and Advanced Placement courses. Established on September 1, 1959 by the Embassies of the United States and Canada, AIS Vienna educates about 800 students from 80 nationalities and operates on an 11-acre campus adjacent to the Vienna Woods. The school comprises Elementary, Middle, and High School in distinct wings within one campus, with facilities including seven science labs, a secondary library, a flexible MS Learning Commons, and a renovated Theater used for productions throughout the year. Notable programs include the Beamline Competition with opportunities to travel to CERN or DESY, Model United Nations, and a Theatre Arts Program with ISTA membership.
