The school has a wide range of after-school experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom. There are approximately 30 different activities each week, allowing students to pursue interests and develop skills such as critical thinking and teamwork. Academic-focused options include maths competitions, science fair, coding, and business development, as well as debate and Model United Nations (MUN) in Vienna and abroad.
Arts and creative pursuits are offered through the After School Activities programme. Drama and theatre performances, band, and guitar club provide opportunities for creative expression and collaboration. There are many more creative options available as part of the programme.
The school supports multilingualism through Privately Taught Languages, enabling tailored lessons to maintain students' mother tongue within English instruction. English serves as the core language of instruction, while PTL sustains native language fluency. In the MYP and DP, PTL can be scheduled to complement language study or count toward IB requirements. Popular choices include football, basketball, volleyball, drama and theatre, debate, band, guitar club, and Model United Nations in Vienna and abroad. All After School Activities are fully included in the school fees.
Service Learning is a cornerstone of the IB philosophy. It combines real-world service with academic learning to deepen understanding, develop empathy, and foster responsible global citizenship. The approach follows a cycle of investigation, planning, action, and reflection that nurtures critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership. Students work on projects that address genuine community needs and connect to classroom learning.
Leadership skills are nurtured through After School Activities. Service Learning emphasizes leadership as students identify challenges, plan solutions, take action, and reflect. This experience strengthens collaboration, problem-solving, and initiative across real-world contexts.
Ice skating and swimming are part of the Elementary School program for all students. Residential trips for Grades 2–5 focus on team building, resilience, and community. The school's holistic development approach cultivates creativity, wellbeing, and character through diverse experiences in the arts, sport, service, and leadership.
Danube International School Vienna (DISV) is an English-language IB World School in central Vienna for students aged 3 to 18. It offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 5–11, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6–10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for Grades 11–12. Founded in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Biber, the school holds Öffentlichkeitsrecht and was Vienna's first fully accredited IB World School. The 10,000 m2 campus has bright classrooms, a bilingual English-German library, science laboratories, a dedicated theatre, a gymnasium, and a secure central playground. PE is supported by the nearby KSV complex, with ice skating and swimming for younger students, and rock climbing and martial arts for older students at nearby facilities. Residential trips for Grades 2–5 foster teamwork and resilience. Approximately 30 after-school activities weekly include drama, band, MUN, coding, and Service Learning, with Privately Taught Languages supporting multilingualism. Service learning remains central.
