English is the language of instruction. The core curriculum is taught in English, and home languages can be maintained through Privately Taught Languages (PTL) with private tutors. English Language Development (ELD) provides targeted support for learners new to English in Elementary and Secondary, and is a paid service; in the MYP and DP a Language and Literature course is compulsory, and many students take their home language as PTL. German and English are offered in every grade, and DP German B HL can reach CEFR C1; Grade 10 offers DELF in French and DELE in Spanish.
The core language of instruction is English. Students learn English and their home language, with German and French or Spanish offered as additional languages. Two thirds of DISV students gain bilingual IB Diplomas.
Danube International School Vienna (DISV) is an English-language IB World School in central Vienna for students aged 3 to 18. It offers the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 5–11, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6–10, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for Grades 11–12. Founded in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. Biber, the school holds Öffentlichkeitsrecht and was Vienna's first fully accredited IB World School. The 10,000 m2 campus has bright classrooms, a bilingual English-German library, science laboratories, a dedicated theatre, a gymnasium, and a secure central playground. PE is supported by the nearby KSV complex, with ice skating and swimming for younger students, and rock climbing and martial arts for older students at nearby facilities. Residential trips for Grades 2–5 foster teamwork and resilience. Approximately 30 after-school activities weekly include drama, band, MUN, coding, and Service Learning, with Privately Taught Languages supporting multilingualism. Service learning remains central.
