The International Christian School of Vienna began in 1985 when a community of missionary families asked Black Forest Academy in Kandern, Germany, to help start a school in Vienna. The school opened in 1986 after registration with the Wiener Stadtschulrat and began at Quellenstrasse with 25 students; it moved to Kreilplatz 1/2 in 1992, growing to 156 students and 40 faculty and staff. From 1995 to 2001 the Vienna Christian School Board expanded the campus by purchasing a porcelain factory and moving the school to Wagramerstrasse 175/Panethgasse 6a in September 2001; the school was first accredited by ACSI on October 15, 2001 and by MSA on January 1, 2009, with Öffentlichkeitsrecht granted in 2005. In 2013 the FKÖ recognized the evangelical churches and ICSV joined the FKÖ consortium in 2014. The school began expanding in 2017 and in May 2019 was listed in the Grundbuch as the official owner of the property; today the school represents 320 students from over 65 nationalities and is pursuing a state-of-the-art facility to accommodate 500-600 students, including four science labs, a double gymnasium, and learning commons.
The school serves a diverse community with students representing around 65 nationalities. Students participate in a wide range of activities including student government, drama and musical productions, fundraisers, school-wide and class-sponsored events, the Spring International Festival, praise nights, and annual Christmas and Spring concerts. Community service initiatives and partnerships with organizations provide service opportunities for students and reflect the schools emphasis on character and service.
ICSV has a Parent Community organization, a group of parents/guardians who welcome and orient new families to ICSV. Parents are encouraged to become involved as volunteers in library/teacher/office aides, guest speakers in classrooms, field trip chaperones, and at school events.
