The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is offered at VIS with Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, comprising Service, Physical Recreation, Skills, Adventurous Journey, and a Residential Project for Gold. The VIS MYP Prose Writing Competition challenges students to submit creative works of fiction; winners receive a certificate and a local book store voucher. Model United Nations (MUN) provides opportunities to simulate United Nations committees and develop research and argumentation skills. Latin classes are taught in English, based on the Cambridge Latin Course, with a four-year program from Grade 7 to Grade 10; the Diploma in Latin is recognized as Austrian Matura Equivalence.
The Music Program is practical and creative, focusing on creating, performing and listening. In Primary School, students join Rock Bands, Primary Choir, Primary String Ensemble, and Beginner Band; in Secondary School, there are Middle School Choir, High School Choir, Intermediate and Advanced Band, Jazz Band, Secondary String Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble, plus the VISMA Instrumental Programme offering private lessons. The theatre program includes an Extra-curricular Theatre and a Primary Drama Production Club, with productions and performances throughout the year. VIS also hosts an IB Diploma Programme Visual Arts exhibition and related events.
Mother Tongue Programme offers lessons in many languages; approximately 20% of students in both Primary and Secondary schools participate. Languages include Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish and many others, with dedicated coordinators and a large international book collection in the libraries (over 3000 books in 60 languages). Mother Tongue lessons are available to all students from GP to Grade 12, typically after school for Primary students and on a negotiated schedule for Secondary students.
VIS offers an extensive after-school activities programme; Primary students can stay on campus until 16:15 and Secondary students until 17:15, in a supervised environment with a wide variety of activities. Students in after-school activities meet and become role models in a safe learning and playing environment, reflecting VIS's diverse community and interests.

VIS runs a Competitive Sports Programme that extends the regular curriculum with three seasonal offerings (Fall, Winter and Spring) and includes off-site coaching and additional activities such as badminton year-round. The programme emphasizes school pride, teamwork and commitment, with opportunities to compete against international and local schools. An Extended Day Programme provides a structured, supervised environment for younger students with age-appropriate activities, homework supervision and campus access.
Vienna International School (VIS) is an IB World School in Austria serving ages 3–18. The Primary School delivers the IB PYP in English; German is taught from age five, and Mother Tongue and PAL programmes support over 20 languages. In Secondary, VIS offers the IB MYP for Grades 6–10 and the IB DP for Grades 11–12. The DP may be taken as the VIS Diploma with IB courses or as the IB Diploma, with Austrian Matura Equivalence optional, and includes Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. The Vienna campus in the 22nd district features a 55,000-item library, 2,000 m2 of sport facilities with five gymnasia and a 220-seat theatre, seven music rooms, three art studios, and a Food Technology Centre plus science and design labs. After-school activities and an Extended Day Programme support a diverse community across about 60 languages.
