The Co-Curriculum Programme provides opportunities across Sports, Arts, Academics and enrichment activities. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is offered as part of AIS's co-curricular options. The programme is designed to meet the varied tastes of students, parents and staff. It supports AIS's holistic, student-centered approach to learning.
Arts at AIS include Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Music. The Fine Arts Centre houses two art studios, multiple music rooms and a 350-seat theatre. Visual Arts includes a DP Visual Arts Exhibition, while Performing Arts involve creating, performing and analyzing theatre with musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Grease and Fiddler on the Roof. Music is integral to the IB Primary Years Programme, with students reading, creating and responding to music and showcasing performances.
English is the language of instruction at AIS. In the Primary Years, classrooms are language-rich to support English development; in the MYP, English language and literacy are developed through Language and Literature or Language Acquisition; in the DP, Language A and Language B support literacy development. The EAL Department provides social and academic English support through a three‑pronged model (pull‑out instruction, push‑in collaboration, and professional development for teachers). Language Acquisition includes Dutch four lessons per week through Grade 5; from Grade 6 four lessons of French per week; Spanish Ab initio is added in DP. Mother Tongue instruction is offered for English and Dutch from Starter to Grade 12, German from Grade 1, and French from Grade 6, with other languages available on request.
AIS offers an extensive After School Programme designed to accommodate the varied interests of students. These activities help students develop new friendships and adapt quickly to the school environment. The programme runs alongside the core day, enabling social and hobby activities. Students and families new to the school soon discover the After School Programme helps with integration.
AIS is a diverse, close-knit community comprised of students, families, alumni, staff, corporate partners, neighbours and friends. Members are engaged in a variety of activities and events that support the school and one another, both on and off campus. Community events are team efforts, with members working together in fun and creative ways. A commitment to service is part of AIS's values and school life.
The Career and University Counselling Office provides a full range of support for students in university search, application, and transition. AIS students attend a wide range of colleges and universities worldwide, including institutions in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United States and Canada. Each year AIS welcomes university visitors and hosts a Spring University Fair with topical educational workshops for students and families. For university-related inquiries, the Career and University Counsellor coordinates these activities.
The sports programme is an integral part of AIS's education and students' personal growth. The AIS Griffins teams compete in and host events within NECIS. The school year is organized into three seasons: Fall (Cross Country, Girls Volleyball, Boys Soccer), Winter (Basketball, Swimming) and Spring (Track & Field, Golf, Girls Soccer, Softball). Participation supports physical, social and emotional well-being.
Antwerp International School is an IB World School in Belgium serving PreSchool to Grade 12, with 330 students from 40 nationalities and a 7:1 student‑to‑faculty ratio. The school offers the IB continuum: PYP, MYP and DP. English is the language of instruction; from Grade 6, four lessons per week are taught in French. AIS provides Mother Tongue instruction for English and Dutch from Starter to Grade 12; German Mother Tongue from Grade 1; French Mother Tongue from Grade 6, with Spanish Ab Initio in the DP. The campus features the STEMzone, a €2+ million facility with science labs, fabrication labs, makerspaces, mathematics spaces and IT areas.
