ISG opened in 2012 as a non-profit organization (vzw) founded by its founding members, starting with ten pupils in a single classroom above a Flemish school. In September 2014, ISG moved to the Leopoldkazerne near Citadel Park. In the summer of 2016, ISG relocated to a purpose-built learning facility on De Pintelaan. In September 2023, ISG launched ISG+ Secondary, beginning with the 1st and 2nd years of secondary education following the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The journey is described as one of growth, resilience, and a deep commitment to its mission.
Situated in Ghent, ISG is a diverse and close-knit international community. The school has small classes and tailored teaching programmes focused on academic and personal goals to help children grow into confident individuals. The ISG community embraces global perspectives and prepares pupils to navigate an ever-changing world with empathy and confidence. ISG is a suitable choice for families relocating to East or West Flanders who seek an internationally minded English curriculum.
ISG has a Parents Association (PA) that welcomes new parents, fosters a positive relationship between families and the school, and enables parent involvement. The PA organizes school-year events and fundraisers, and serves as a resource for new families adjusting to life in Ghent. PA events include Coffee & Croissants mornings, Pasta Lunch, Bingo Night, and the International Festival. Each class has a PA representative and class communications are supported by calendars and emails, helping parents stay connected. The PA posts information on the School Calendar and via school communications to keep families informed.
International School Ghent (ISG) is a private, non-profit international school serving ages 2 to 16. The curriculum combines IPC in the Primary years and the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) in the ISG+ Secondary, with Diploma Programme planned. Pre-Primary is split into Lower and Upper Pre-Primary (2.5–4 and 4–5.5 years), using IPC-based topics to develop language, numeracy, craft, and expressive arts. In Primary, learners explore cross-curricular IPC themes with specialist Dutch, sport, swimming, and music teachers, plus a learning support programme; there is no English-language entry test, and students with limited English receive targeted support. In Secondary, ISG+ began in 2023 with MYP Years 2–4 (Years 7–9), progressing to full MYP in 2026 (Year 10, MYP Year 5). The campus is next to Ghent University and shares facilities in a Secondary building. A sports hall, music and language rooms, an auditorium, and outdoor space support a program, with Ghent University laboratories.
