The AISB was founded in 1993 and is located in the heart of Cochabamba, Bolivia. It is a co-educational school serving Pre-Kinder through 12th grade. The primary language of instruction is English, with Spanish as a second language, educating bilingual students. AISB is fully accredited by Cognia and is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization and the Bolivian Ministry of Education, enabling a Bolivian program, a US-based college-preparatory curriculum, and the IB Diploma program. The school fosters a multicultural and inclusive education with a diverse community of students, staff and families.
The AISB community is diverse, multilingual, and multicultural within the international and national context. Most students are from Bolivia, with the American community representing the second-largest international group, and others from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Italy, Mexico, Spain, among others. Faculty and staff are primarily from Bolivia, with additional representation from Chile, the Netherlands, Peru, Romania, Spain, Ukraine, the United States, and Venezuela. The community engages families through events and opportunities for involvement, including Back to School Night, Sports Year Inauguration, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Walkathon, International Day, and Thanksgiving Luncheon.
The Parent Club is the AISB parents association. This group of parents is elected every two years to pursue different school activities together with the General Director. The current 2021-2023 Parent Club Board members are: Shirley Gonzáles (President); Elizabeth Antezana (Vice-Presidente); Carla Villalobos (Treasurer); Walter Rocabado (Secretary).
The American International School of Bolivia (AISB) is a co-educational day school in Cochabamba serving 800 students from Pre-Kinder through 12th grade across 15 nationalities. Founded in 1993, the school combines the Bolivian national programme with a US-based preparatory curriculum and the IB Diploma Programme. Accredited by Cognia, the school maintains an 11:1 student-to-teacher ratio and offers programmes in technology, robotics, visual arts, athletics and languages.
