The Colégio Soka do Brasil was founded in 2001 with the inauguration of the Centro de Convivência Infantil Soka do Brasil in Vila Mariana, São Paulo. It was the fifth Soka Education preschool in the world and the first in the Western Hemisphere, originally serving children aged 4 to 6. The school follows the Soka Education philosophy, emphasizing that students should be happy while learning and that the arts—music, dance, and theater—support creative and expressive development. In 2018, it became an IB World School and began offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, enabling students to obtain both the IB diploma and the Brazilian high school diploma upon completion. In August 2018, the Colégio Soka do Brasil was recognized as a UNESCO Associated School, joining a global network that promotes global citizenship, peace, and sustainable development, and integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals into its practices.
The school participates in the Soka Global education network and holds UNESCO Associated School status, reflecting a commitment to global citizenship and sustainable development. It hosted the first Soka Summer Camp in January 2026, offering a cultural journey through Haiti, Morocco, Scotland, and Brazil, with activities including arts, games, and a cooking show featuring traditional recipes. In late January 2026, the school organized a staff formation on Nonviolent Communication led by Cindy Carbonari to strengthen dialogue, listening, and constructive feedback among teachers and students. The school emphasizes dialogue as a tool for transformation and fosters a community that values creativity, peace, and cross-cultural understanding.
