Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The British School of Brasilia opened in 2016 and was officially opened by His Excellency, the British Ambassador to Brazil. It is part of The British Schools Foundation (BSF), a UK-registered non-profit organization. The campus spans almost 16,000 square metres and offers learning spaces, a library, an auditorium and specialist facilities, with classrooms and resources that meet the English National Curriculum standards. The school provides Early Years Foundation Stage through Primary and Secondary education, aligned with the English National Curriculum.

Community

The school maintains a Parent Community as an integral part of school life, with communications delivered via the school app, weekly updates from teachers and school leaders, termly curriculum letters and regular pupil progress reports. The Events and Fundraising Group (EFG) coordinates the planning and delivery of school events and fundraising activities. At the start of each academic year, volunteers register their interest via the school app, and each Year Group has a parent representative who supports communication within the cohort. The school hosts a range of events including Family Day, Christmas Fayre, Carnival, International Day, Art Week, Science Fair, Sports Day, Festa Junina, BSB's Got Talent and School Trips.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA function is carried out through the Events and Fundraising Group (EFG) within the Parent Community, which plans and delivers events and fundraising activities. At the start of each academic year, volunteers can register their interest via the school app, and each Year Group has a parent representative to support communication within the cohort. New families are encouraged to connect with their Year Group representative and may take on the role in time. Participation by parents strengthens the partnership between school and home and contributes to a welcoming community.
