Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

Khmer, French, and Mandarin are taught. Senior Kindergarten to Grade 9 students take language classes in Khmer, Mandarin, or French, with language study optional from Grade 10 onward. English as an Additional Language support is available for non-native English speakers. Khmer language and culture is offered as a credit-bearing course for Grades 10–12 under Alberta's system, enabling up to 15 credits toward an Alberta High School Diploma.

Bilingual Teaching

French Bilingual Program and Mandarin Bilingual Program are available for Senior Kindergarten through Grade 6. Students study the Alberta (Canadian) curriculum in the bilingual language for about 35% of the school day. Language assessments are required for Grades 2–6 admissions, and spaces are limited. The bilingual programs are included in tuition.

Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS) is a private international school serving Nursery through Grade 12; the school opened in 2012 and is accredited by Alberta, Canada.
