Balmoral Hall School was established in 1901 as Havergal College, with doors opening at 122 Carlton Street under Miss Mary Jane Dalton. Havergal's name was changed in 1917 to Rupert's Land College to avoid confusion with the Toronto Havergal College and to align with the West. Aikins House was a gift to the United Church of Canada from Sir James Aikins on his death in 1929, and his son, Col. G.H. Aikins, later provided the Red House; Riverbend School for Girls opened in September 1929 at the present Balmoral Hall site. By 1950, deficits led to the amalgamation of Rupert's Land Carlton Street and Riverbend; the new Balmoral Hall was formed on the Riverbend campus and named after Balmoral Castle. School began in September 1950 under Miss Gwendolyn Murrell-Wright; Balmoral Hall is a non-denominational independent day and boarding school educating students from Junior Nursery to Grade 12, located at 630 Westminster Ave, Winnipeg.
The school provides a supportive learning environment with a strong sense of community, belonging, and celebration of diversity, and it aims to prepare every BH girl with purpose for the future. The mission emphasizes resilience and creativity within a caring community. Balmoral Hall's broader community is reinforced through alumnae and parent engagement as part of its culture.
Vision: To create a lifelong, engaged community. The Balmoral Hall Parent Association works as a partner with Balmoral Hall School to promote and enrich students' educational experiences by fostering a strong sense of community through parental involvement. Values describe the BH family as compassionate, principled, inclusive, and engaged in creating belonging, enhancing school life for girls and families, and having fun together. The BHPA is run by and for parents and caregivers, with volunteers hosting events that connect families, show appreciation for staff, and celebrate students; news and event details are shared via the weekly It's Thursday newsletter, and the BHPA Store handles tickets and preloved uniform sales. The Grade Ambassador program and a BHPA Council coordinate activities, including roles such as President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Events, and Grade Ambassadors, with events like the Fall Festival.
