Harry Giles and Anna Por founded the Toronto French School in September 1962, opening in the basement of their home. The school grew into Canada's International School, serving about 1,500 students on two campuses from age two to university entrance. It received a royal patronage from Queen Elizabeth II in 1980, becoming the first Canadian school to be honoured in this way. In 2011 the school was renamed TFS – Canada's International School to reflect its bilingual program and international community.
Two campuses serve about 1,500 students from age 2 to university entrance, with families from 40+ countries. The TFS Alumni Association comprises over 3,500 alumni in 31 countries. The community engages in events such as the Terry Fox Run, the Kermesse fundraising event, Carrousel des nations and International Weeks to celebrate world cultures.
The Parents' Association organizes major fundraising and community events, including the first Kermesse in 1994, which funds principal needs. Le Marché d'hiver and the Guinguette were added in 2016 to expand holiday and cultural traditions. The Allez gala (2009) celebrated facilities improvements on the Mississauga campus. These events foster parent involvement and support school priorities.
