Founded in spring 1939 by Benoît Brouillette and his wife Louise to open a French-language college for girls; the first year began at 3666 Rue Sainte-Famille with about a dozen pupils. In 1946 the college moved to 4635 Queen Mary, with expansions in the 1950s to accommodate more students. In 1971 the school became co-educational, and the elementary section was inaugurated after a fundraising campaign in the mid-1980s. In November 2004 Collège Marie de France became Collège International Marie de France, serving students from kindergarten to the baccalaureate, with enrollment of about 1850 students from roughly 70 nationalities; diplomas are aligned with both the French national education system and the Quebec system, enabling transitions between the two. Since its founding, tens of thousands of CIMF graduates have pursued careers worldwide.
Notre Campus traces CIMF's evolution from its 1939 Rue Sainte-Famille beginnings to the current Queen Mary site; in 1942 the college moved to Côte des Neiges and in 1946 to 4635 Queen Mary, with expansions in the 1950s. It became co-educational in 1971 and the primary school opened in 1986 after a fundraising drive; the Fulton site was inaugurated in 1986 and expanded further in 1988. In 2004 the college was renamed Collège International Marie de France, serving maternelle through bac, and by 2024 enrollment reached 1850 students. In 2022 the adjacent Maison Converse on Queen Mary was acquired as part of a Campus Project to enlarge common spaces, promote collaborative work, and improve circulation; CIMF has engaged the community in consultations and is launching a three-million-dollar fundraising campaign to support the campus.
The Association des parents d'élèves (APE) is a key CIMF partner representing all families of the college. It serves as the main communication link between parents and the administration, participates in daily school life (welcoming new families, open houses, and book fairs), and organises events in partnership with the College (Graduation for terminale students, Bal des Secondes, Fête du primaire). It recruits, trains and assists parent delegates for all primary, secondary and collegiate classes, and sits on CIMF governance bodies including the Board of Directors, the Establishment Council, the School Council, and scholarship committees.
Collège International Marie de France (CIMF) is a private school located in Montréal at 4635 Queen Mary. It is affiliated with the AEFE network and delivers the French national curriculum alongside the Québec model, preparing students for two French diplomas: the Diplôme National du Brevet (end of 3e) and the Baccalauréat Français (1ère and Terminale). Eight Baccalauréat specialties are offered, and progression supports two streams with options across humanities, sciences, languages, and economics. The school operates from Maternelle through Lycée, with English study beginning in early years and additional languages introduced from CM2. CIMF's campus includes an auditorium of 300 seats, two libraries with around 20,000 titles, a cafeteria, computer and science labs, and a dedicated IT team. Extracurriculars span STEM, arts, languages and community service, including Genius Club, Robotics and Chess, as well as extensive performing arts and music programs. The school welcomes families from roughly seventy nationalities worldwide.
