Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school provides personalized care as a core part of its approach. The school operates as a truly international, bilingual environment that develops global citizenship. Most teachers are certified by the French Ministry of National Education and are recruited through the AEFE network. Student services include Before and After School Care, Hot Lunch, Study Hall, Clubs, and Athletics to support student wellbeing. The International Program hosts international students and places visiting students with English-speaking host families through the Canada Homestay Network for language practice and cultural immersion.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Instruction is delivered mostly in French, with English and Social Studies taught in English. Spanish begins in grade six.

Safeguarding

The school maintains a Lycée School Code of Conduct and a Personal Information Protection Act Policy. There is also a Whistleblower Policy and related governance documents such as annual reports and education plans.

The Lycée international de Calgary offers a dual-curriculum education for preschool through Grade 12, combining the French Ministry of National Education program with Alberta Education. It is an independent bilingual school and AEFE member in the Altadore neighbourhood. Students study in French and English, and in high school earn both the French Baccalaureate and the Alberta High School Diploma, enabling pathways to Canadian and international tertiary study. The school began in 1966 as Lycée Louis Pasteur and joined AEFE in 1990; it adopted its current name in 2021. A new kindergarten building with eight classrooms and a gym opened in January 2025. Facilities include modern bilingual classrooms, a bilingual library, an indoor climbing wall, a gym, a sports field, and a renovated maternelle building. The International Program welcomes students from France and AEFE schools, with hosting arranged through the Canada Homestay Network. Partnerships with Francophone institutions connect Calgary's Francophone community.
