The Diploma Programme (IB) is being prepared for implementation at upper-secondary level. The school is advancing in the process to offer the IB Diploma Programme. The Diploma Programme core includes Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS). The program develops critical thinking and independent learning and fosters intercultural understanding, supported by multilingual education and a commitment to respectful convivencia and cultural engagement.
German is taught and assessed through international German-language examinations administered by the German department. Exams cover levels A1 (4th grade), A2 (7th grade), B1 (IV Medio), and B2/C1. Certification at B1 opens opportunities to participate in national and international competitions and scholarships. The program emphasizes developing reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills and intercultural competence.
Action Social coordinates student involvement in community service. Activities have included English-language outreach to Los Muermos, participation in the Escuela Alemania anniversary, a woolen-blanket drive, painting work at Escuela Cayenel Puerto Montt, and Mother's Day gift distribution to local seniors.
The Centro de Alumnos (Student Council) for 2025 includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, with multiple committees. The committees include Environment, Sports, Action Social, Convivencia Escolar, Public Relations, Health, and Culture.
Convivencia Escolar supports student well-being with a dedicated director of convivencia escolar and staff including an orientation counselor and a psychologist. The orientation and psychology services are available to students as part of the school's well-being framework.
Instituto Alemán Puerto Montt offers education from early childhood through upper secondary with an International Baccalaureate program. The school delivers the IB PYP, MYP and DP, organizing the Diploma Programme around Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service, in six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and Arts. Students may elect to study an additional Higher Level subject in Sciences, Individuals and Societies, or languages instead of an Arts subject, with up to four HL courses and the remainder at Standard Level. SL courses are 150 hours and HL courses 240 hours. The campus Bernardo Phillippi 350 in Puerto Montt teaches in Spanish and German and has been an IB World School since 2018.
