German is taught as a curricular language starting in 4th grade with level A1 and in 7th grade with level A2. From I Medio, students may take the B1 certification, and from IV Medio, the B2/C1 certification; B1 certification enables scholarships such as the Preisträger Stipendium from the German Embassy, and B2/C1 allows admission to German universities. Certifications issued by KMK have indefinite validity, and access to these certifications is free in German schools. The school's Proyecto Educativo integrates multilingualism and IB values, and the Diploma Programme is offered, emphasizing learning a second language.
Instituto Alemán Puerto Montt offers education from early childhood through upper secondary with an International Baccalaureate program. The school delivers the IB PYP, MYP and DP, organizing the Diploma Programme around Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service, in six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and Arts. Students may elect to study an additional Higher Level subject in Sciences, Individuals and Societies, or languages instead of an Arts subject, with up to four HL courses and the remainder at Standard Level.
