How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school provides social and emotional learning through Convivencia Escolar. The Convivencia Escolar team includes a Director, coordinators for the 1st and 2nd cycles, and a Convivencia Assistant. Orientation and Psychology services are part of the program, including a Psychopedagogue, two Orientation counselors, and Psychologists across grade levels. A differential education teacher supports students with different learning needs.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Special Education is provided by a dedicated Special Education teacher (Educacif3n Diferencial), who is part of the Convivencia Escolar support structure.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported through Orientation and Psychology services. The staff includes a Psychopedagogue, two Orientation counselors, a Psychologist for grades 2 through 6, and a Psychologist for other levels.

Safeguarding

The school operates a Plan Integral de Seguridad Escolar (PISE) to coordinate safety programs for the school community. The Rector forms and maintains the School Safety Committee, with defined responsibilities and ongoing risk assessment. Emergency procedures address earthquakes, fires, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and other emergencies, with detailed steps for evacuation, communication, and response.

Instituto Alemán Puerto Montt offers education from early childhood through upper secondary with an International Baccalaureate program. The school delivers the IB PYP, MYP and DP, organizing the Diploma Programme around Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service, in six subject groups: Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics and Arts. Students may elect to study an additional Higher Level subject in Sciences, Individuals and Societies, or languages instead of an Arts subject, with up to four HL courses and the remainder at Standard Level. SL courses are 150 hours and HL courses 240 hours. The campus Bernardo Phillippi 350 in Puerto Montt teaches in Spanish and German and has been an IB World School since 2018. The school emphasizes intercultural understanding and multilingual education, supported by a wellbeing framework and a library system, BiblioCRA, with a Virtual Library and Online Catalog.
