Qingdao Amerasia International School traces its origins to the Qingdao American International School, which began its first classes on September 4, 2006, to serve Qingdao's growing foreign community with an education comparable to a typical American K-12 program. In 2011, the school was licensed by the Chinese government as International School No. 110 and re-opened as Qingdao Amerasia International School with a broader international-minded philosophy. QAIS is a private, non-profit international school. It was the first school in Shandong Province to be authorized for the full IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP), and in 2014 it became the first school in Asia to be accredited by the American Montessori Society for its Toddler and Early Childhood programs; QAIS has also earned accreditation from the Middle States Association and the Council of International Schools.
QAIS serves a diverse community with students from more than 30 countries and staff from over 50 nationalities. The school hosts and participates in numerous community and cultural events, including International Day, Arts Week, seasonal celebrations, school musical performances, Open Day, and Family Day, which actively involve families and alumni. A major milestone celebration in recent years was QAIS's 15-Year Anniversary and International Day in 2025, which brought together more than 1,200 guests from around 50 nationalities for a Parade of Nations, musical showcases, and a Global Food Festival. These events reflect QAIS's emphasis on global citizenship, cultural exchange, and community engagement.
Parent Connect is the volunteer parent and guardian organization that unites staff, students, and parents to strengthen the Amerasia community. Members organize a wide range of events and activities to support QAIS programs, including Arts Week, seasonal celebrations, International Day, school musical performances, Open Day, and Family Day. Parent Connect also runs parent education events to foster home–school partnership. Participation provides opportunities to volunteer, share professional skills, and build friendships with other families, while enhancing communication and collaboration between families and the school's staff and administration. The PTA's activities are central to fostering an inclusive, engaged community and supporting the overall QAIS experience.
