Languages taught: English, Spanish, French. English is taught as a first language by internationally qualified, native-speaking teachers. Spanish is taught as an additional language with 4 hours per week of Spanish as a second language and 3 hours of Colombian Culture taught by bilingual teachers, enabling content access in both Spanish and English. French is also taught.
ALD consists of eight teachers who teach English and Spanish as additional languages throughout the school. All teachers are bilingual and either ICELT qualified or specialised in bilingualism in the International School context. They work with classroom and subject teachers to ensure students reach a proficiency language level that will allow them to reach their full potential in all of their different curriculum subjects. When an external language tutor is required, ALD coordinates the academic follow up with parents and supports language development through staff coaching in English language teaching.
Acquisition of Spanish as an Additional Language at CGB includes 4 hours of Spanish as a second language per week and 3 hours of learning in Colombian Culture taught by bilingual teachers. This approach promotes the use of Spanish while ensuring content can be accessed in both Spanish and English. Physical Education and Performing Arts involve bilingual teachers (with Spanish as their mother tongue), and students are exposed to the local language across activities.
