Lincoln School was founded in 1945 by Costa Rican parents and American immigrants as a bicultural and bilingual educational institution in Costa Rica, starting with 136 students in a small house in Barrio La California, San José. In 1953, it moved to Moravia on a 3.19-hectare plot donated by André Challe. In March 2003, the school acquired land in Barrio El Socorro, San Miguel de Santo Domingo de Heredia, and construction began in 2006; the new campus officially opened on April 18, 2007, on a 7-hectare site. Enrollment has grown to over 1,400 students, and in 2023 the Lincoln Innovation Center (LINC) was established with international experts to provide a modern space for teaching, experimentation, collaboration, and prototype development.
Lincoln School actively shapes positive impact and fosters connections within local and global communities through philanthropic and sustainability initiatives. Students and staff participate in fundraising for local charities, collaborate with animal-care organizations, sponsor Special Olympics athletes, and run a reforestation program. The school hosts garage sales to raise funds, collects used uniforms for donation, and makes cash and in-kind gifts to local schools and non-profits. The campus is opened for community events such as graduations and year-end celebrations.
