Created in 1960 under the aegis of the Ministry of National Education, the International Sections SIS Paris Ouest is among the oldest international sections in France. Today, SIS Paris Ouest serves over 1,300 students in English-speaking and German-speaking sections from kindergarten through lycée, with around sixty teachers from English- or German-speaking countries. Sixty years of teaching in the mother tongue and bicultural education by native-language teachers. SIS Paris Ouest operates as a non-profit association governed by the 1901 law, with administrative and teaching staff employed by the association. SIS Paris Ouest is located in Boulogne, Saint-Cloud, and Sèvres.
Life at SIS goes beyond the classroom; it is rich and varied, with moments of self-discovery and connections with others. Students develop their passions, talents and curiosity through the many clubs, activities, exchanges and trips offered each year. During their time at SIS, students have at least two opportunities to participate in tailor-made trips organized by their teachers, with destinations such as Montreal, Mount Prospect, Edinburgh, London, Shrewsbury, York, Berlin, Köln, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe. The SIS life also features literary and artistic magazines, the Yearbook (Jahrbuch) and dramatic and debating activities such as The Primary Play, Poetry by Heart, Senior Prom, Debating Club, MUN and PEL, as well as Room to Read Readathon.
The SIS Paris Ouest operates as a non-profit association governed by the 1901 law. It is a parent association governed by a Board of Directors. The Board has ten elected members for a three-year term and includes an executive office with a President, two Vice-Presidents, a treasurer and a secretary, plus strategic, HR and legal, communications and volunteer committees. The Board works closely with the school leadership and staff to implement the strategy and actions defined by the Board. The Parents Committee (CoPa) creates a strong SIS Paris Ouest parent community and coordinates social events and shares news about SIS life. Three hours per year is the commitment expected of each parent who becomes a member; they participate in conferences, welcome new parents, engage with students at the Alumni Forum, and help organize social and educational events such as the Parents Evening, year-end Boums, The Play, and Die Bühne. The association lives thanks to engaged and passionate parents.
SIS Paris Ouest offers bilingual education within the French education system, with Anglophone and Germanophone sections. The school operates across three host establishments in Sèvres, Boulogne-Billancourt and Saint-Cloud and serves over 1,300 students from kindergarten through lycée. It was founded in 1960 and remains an international section under the aegis of the French Ministry of National Education, employing about sixty teachers from English- or German-speaking countries. The curriculum combines the French national framework with Cambridge Secondary and Cambridge IGCSE, and the integrated programme is designed for bilingual students with mother-tongue-level language skills. Two disciplines—literature and history-geography—are taught in English or German, and the programme provides six hours of literacy, geography, history and science instruction. A Wednesday School offers morning workshops in English and German, and after-school language activities for younger students. Extracurriculars include Debating Club, Model United Nations and Parliament Européen, theatre productions (The Play/Die Bühne) and fundraisers and exchanges.
