In September 2004, the first bilingual German-English kindergarten opened in Berlin-Mitte, the foundation stone of today's Berlin Cosmopolitan School. The primary school opened in 2007, and the campus moved to Rückerstraße 9 in 2008; the secondary school started in 2009. In 2013, BCS was accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School for the Primary Years Programme and Diploma Programme. The school has achieved the best Abitur average in Berlin in 2016 and 2019, and celebrated 20 years in 2025 with ongoing developments such as a redesigned library, new cafeteria, and a Nature Campus, while continuing IB/Abitur success.
BCS maintains an active, international school community with a range of clubs and community groups. The Community section includes Official School Clothing, Friends of Cosmo, and Music Friends of BCS. The school also hosts major events such as the annual Summer Show and other performances that involve students from kindergarten to upper school, as highlighted in the 2025 Summer Show recap. The Summer Show is described as a festival of music, dance, art and community spirit.
