Resources and spaces that support learning and development

Facilities Overview

The International Bilingual School Munich operates at Lerchenauerstraße 197 in Munich and is expanding with a bilingual Feldmochinger Campus to include nursery, kindergarten, and a bilingual full-day primary school for ages 0 to 10. The Feldmochinger Campus features bright, modern classrooms, centrally located marketplaces, spaces for movement, rhythm and sport, a bilingual library, a spacious auditorium, and a roof terrace. It also offers an outdoor area with mature trees and play spaces, and a Mensa for meals. The campus will host IBSM and IKC programs under a two-language immersion model as part of an international early-to-primary education pathway. The school runs a state-approved all-day program (9:00–16:00) with the Primary Years Programme and students from more than 25 nations.

Sports Facilities

The Feldmochinger Campus provides spaces designed for movement, rhythm, and sport, integrated into flexible learning environments. There are dedicated spaces for physical education and outdoor activity as part of the campus design. The campus layout supports a range of sporting activities through both indoor and outdoor provisions.

Academic Facilities

The school offers the Primary Years Programme with bilingual immersion, with classes taught by one English-speaking and one German-speaking teacher. Units of Inquiry guide learning across six interdisciplinary areas in German and English. The PYP learner profile emphasizes inquiry, knowledge, communication, and global-mindedness across subjects. Assessments include regular progress checks, self-assessments, 3-way conferences, and the PYP Portfolio, supported by standardized tests such as Hamburger Schreib-Probe, Deutscher Mathematik-Test, and International Schools Assessment. The Fokussprache option allows families to choose a focus language (German or English) with additional language instruction.

Extra-Curricular Activities

After 16:00, annually changing extracurricular activities are offered through external partners, including breakdance, yoga, swimming courses, and art workshops. The after-school activities are delivered within the school's all-day program structure. The school emphasizes social-emotional learning and holistic development as part of the PYP framework. External partnerships enrich learning beyond the classroom through hands-on experiences.

International Bilingual School Munich offers a full-day program and IB World School status since 2017. It combines the IB Primary Years Programme with the Bavarian LehrplanPLUS curriculum for ages 6 to 11 inclusive, delivering core subjects in a bilingual English–German environment. In classes 1 to 4, English-speaking and German-speaking teachers work together under a one language model, with families able to choose a focus language and receive extra instruction. Assessments rely on performance-based methods—PYP portfolios, conferences, and ongoing feedback—alongside periodic standardised tests. IBSM has been state-approved since 2010 and runs four classes, normally up to 25 pupils per class, with all-day sessions from 9:00 to 16:00. The Lerchenauerstraße campus is complemented by a planned Feldmochinger Campus featuring a bilingual library, an auditorium, a roof terrace, and spaces for movement and sport; a Mensa serves meals. After-school activities include breakdance, yoga, swimming and art workshops; social-emotional learning is central to PYP.
