Model United Nations (MUN) provides opportunities to debate international issues, and the Strategy Game Club nurtures strategic thinking. Robotics develops STEM skills and problem solving, while the Drama Club and the Yearbook Team foster communication and analytical abilities. The Entrepreneurship Club brings together creative and practical thinking around business concepts.
Drama Club and Yearbook Team offer opportunities in performance, writing, design, and collaboration. The Creativity, Activity and Service framework encourages creative projects and service experiences within ISHR. Some ISHR students have designed mountain bike courses, assisted with language lessons for refugees, and organized volunteer efforts for a local children's hospital and the Special Olympics.
PRISM (People Rising In Support Of Multiculturalism) fosters multicultural understanding. The South Sudan Club raises funds to support a teacher training college in South Sudan. PLAN sponsors children's education in Lima, Peru. Global Issues Network engages in local initiatives to address global issues.
ISHR offers a broad range of clubs that foster social interaction and personal interests, including MUN, Entrepreneurship Club, Student Council, and Students Against Trafficking. There are hobby-focused groups such as Satellite, South Sudan Club, PLAN, Yearbook, Drama Club, Strategy Game Club, Floorball, Robotics, and GSA. These activities provide opportunities to pursue personal interests and connect with peers.
Creativity, Activity and Service involves service projects from Primary through the Diploma Programme; Primary students visit local nursing homes, raise awareness of habitat loss for orangutans, and sponsor donations for local families. Middle Years students are required to participate in service to move to the next grade level. Diploma Programme students complete 18 months of CAS experiences weekly as part of the IB curriculum. Clubs such as the South Sudan Club and PLAN sponsor service initiatives, and ISHR volunteers contribute to local hospitals and the Special Olympics.
ISHR's Secondary Student Council consists of elected class representatives from Grades 6 through 12. Elections for class representatives occur at the beginning of each school year, and the President and Vice President are elected within one week. Treasurer, Secretary, and other responsibilities are appointed at the first Council meeting. Leadership opportunities are available to students who have completed at least one full academic year at ISHR.
Three strands comprise Creativity, Activity and Service: Creativity, Activity, and Service, with Activity involving physical exertion that supports a healthy lifestyle. ISHR offers Floorball as part of its after-school activities. The Primary After School Activities schedule is split into three trimesters, with changes to activities each term to accommodate new offerings and limit places.
