The school provides international education in English across Kindergarten through Grade 12. English as an Additional Language (EAL) supports language development, with the WIDA MODEL assessments used annually from Grade 1 to track progress. The Home Language program offers maintenance for students' home languages in languages such as Arabic, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. German is taught as a language, with placement tests in German in the lower grades, and French or Spanish are offered as foreign languages in the curriculum.
Immersive Learning emphasizes hands-on, experiential learning beyond the classroom. Maker Space is available for Primary students and a robotics lab for Secondary. Outdoor learning is supported by outdoor learning specialists and the HANOLE (HANnover Outdoor LEarning) garden, providing open-air experiences. Field trips broaden learning and cultural awareness, including Edinburgh, Camp Adventure, and Juist.
International School Hannover Region (ISHR) is an independent, non‑profit IB school serving ages 3–18. It offers the full International Baccalaureate continuum from Kindergarten through Grade 12, including the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. Instruction is in English, with German language and other subjects integrated as appropriate. ISHR is accredited by CIS and NEASC and is a member of AGIS. The campus sits on a green site near central Hanover, with a main administration building, four wings of classrooms, a well‑stocked library, science laboratories, ICT infrastructure, a dedicated Kindergarten, a dining hall with a professional kitchen, and music, drama rooms and an auditorium; plus on‑site sports facilities. In 2013 a new secondary centre opened and a gym and visitors' gallery were added to the PE Wing, with the main sports hall renovated. The school emphasizes Creativity, Activity and Service; clubs include MUN, Strategy Game Club, Robotics, Drama, and Yearbook. Around 600 students from more than 65 nations study here, with graduates going to universities worldwide. In 2022 ISHR attained carbon neutrality and was named Digital Place Lower Saxony.
