Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

ISHR is an independent school accredited by CIS and NEASC and a member of AGIS. Lower Saxony authorities granted subsidies and the City of Hanover lent the campus to ISHR GmbH, a non-profit limited liability company. A gym and a visitors' gallery were added to the PE Wing, and the main sports hall was renovated. In 2010 ISHR was accredited by NEASC and CIS; in 2013 a new secondary centre opened with extensive facilities; in 2019 ISHR was re-accredited by CIS, NEASC and the IBO, and the robotics team won bronze at FIRST Global. In 2020 ISHR held its first Drive-In Graduation during COVID-19 restrictions, and in 2022 ISHR attained carbon neutrality and was named Digital Place Lower Saxony; as of 2024/2025 there are around 600 students from more than 65 nations following the IB, with graduates attending top universities worldwide.

Community

ISHR's community brings together students and families from more than 65 nationalities, creating a diverse and welcoming environment. Active involvement by parents and staff strengthens community life, with regular events and programs, and information about activities and meetings is shared via the school newsletter or Classlist app. The annual International Festival celebrates cultural diversity with country booths, performances and activities, organized in large part by the PTA. The festival is open to all families.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Elternbeirat (Parent-Teacher Association) is an active organization of parents, teachers, and students that plans events and raises funds to support ISHR. Two annual activities are Pumpkin Patch and Winter Wonderland. The highlight of the year is the International Festival, which includes international foods, games, entertainment and an auction. The festival is open to all families, not only ISHR families. Current information about activities and meetings is shared via the school newsletter or Classlist app.
