ISH offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) and the Career-related Programme (CP). In 2024, DP results included an average DP score of 32.1 out of 45, an average subject score of 5.08 out of 7, and a top DP score of 44; 55% of DP students scored over 30 points. All CP students earned the CP Diploma, and 85% of ISH graduates matriculated to colleges and universities worldwide.
The After School Music program connects students with private instrumental teachers, offers ensembles, ABRSM exam preparation, and concerts, with lessons across instruments including piano, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, percussion, and voice. The Music Enrichment Ensemble program includes School Band, Junior Choir, Senior Pop Choir, Junior Rock Ensemble, Senior Rock Ensemble, and Community Orchestra, with weekly slots and two annual concerts. ISH produces theatre productions such as ALICE and A Midsummer Night's Dream under the Visual and Performing Arts leadership, offering opportunities for student involvement in acting and production.
English is the language of instruction and communication at ISH; English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is available, along with a Modern Foreign Language Programme and Mother Tongue support. Model United Nations is part of ISH's student life, with participation in conferences such as The Hague International MUN.
The After School Activities (ASA) program offers a diverse range of activities across three areas, designed to extend learning beyond the classroom and guided by ASA instructors. Students set the direction and work toward a defined goal within the ASA framework.
ISH engages in sustainability and environmental initiatives, including Eco-School/Umweltschule Europa accreditation achieved in July 2025 and GreenISH student-led sustainability audits since 2022. The school conducts biodiversity projects (including beekeeping) and collaborates with local organizations such as PLACE4BEES to foster environmental stewardship.
ISH's athletics program offers NECIS and Intramural sports for students in grades P3–12; NECIS teams train twice weekly and compete in weekend games and the NECIS Tournament. Intramural offerings include Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Athletics Club, Badminton, Gymnastics, Mini-Tennis, Canoeing, Climbing Club, Fitness Club, and Floor Hockey, with a non-competitive track for younger students and those not on NECIS teams.
International School of Hamburg (ISH) is a private, independent, non-profit international school in Hamburg, Germany, serving around 730 students from over 55 nationalities. The school offers a continuous international curriculum from Early Years to Grade 12. The Early Years follow the IEYC; the Junior School uses the IPC with cross-curricular units in Science, History, Geography, Art, Technology and International Understanding, supported by specialist teachers in Music, German, Physical Education, Library Skills and ICT.
