The school offers a range of academically oriented extracurricular projects beyond regular classes. Examples include a Zaragoza student exchange (Year 10), a geography-based city development project (Year 11), and the Neurolabor Campus Berlin-Buch (Biology). The curriculum also includes Wissenschaftstag, Studientag and Berufsorientierung, and a Seminarkurs that focuses on either scientific topics or career orientation. Additional activities include Gentechnisches Labor Campus Berlin-Buch and Schülerlabor Golm, as well as cross-year projects and a choir/big-band camp.
Arts and performing opportunities include theater performances and a choir/big-band program, with a cross-year choir/big-band camp. A Tanzwerkstatt (dance workshop) with the Linksfüßern is offered as well.
Language and culture are promoted through Sprachreisen to Paris and Málaga, and there is an individual exchange with Zaragoza, Spain for Year 10 (with a return visit later). The school also supports French and Spanish exchanges, with possibilities such as Brigitte Sauzay and Voltaire programs for French exchanges, including DFJW funding where applicable. The language trips to Málaga and the Zaragoza exchange are part of regular language-learning experiences.
Independent student groups include an autonomous LGBTIQ group, guided by the school social worker and a trusted teacher. There are also Sek I/II activities such as choir/big-band camps and a theater program (Theatervorstellungen). A dance workshop (Tanzwerkstatt) with the Linksfüßern is offered, and there are additional opportunities for performance and creative expression.
Community service and social responsibility are integrated through activities such as Aktion Tagwerk – Ein Tag für Afrika, and through various cross-year projects and events that engage students with the wider community.
Career and study orientation is a central feature, with a dedicated Berufsorientierungsbüro and professional advisers. Students can take part in Potentialanalyse, Komm auf Tour – meine Stärken, meine Zukunft; Berufsvorbereitungstraining, visits to BIZ and other career services, student internships, and events like Wissenschafts- und Studientage as part of guidance toward further education and careers, including the Vocatium college fair.
Ganztag (full-day) provisions expand learning beyond the classroom, including a range of after-school activities and health-related programs. The school supports inclusive culture through the LGBTIQ Community and offers activities such as a One Week for Future project and a Dance Workshop, as well as anti-bullying and inclusivity initiatives as part of its climate and well-being efforts.
Leibniz Gymnasium Dortmund International School is a German Gymnasium offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the upper secondary level and has been an IB World School since 2009. English begins in Grade 5, with a second foreign language (French or Latin) in Grade 7; from Grade 9, additional languages such as Chinese and Spanish are available, with English continuing as a core language. The curriculum includes bilingual teaching in selected subjects and uses Green Line G9 textbooks in the upper years. The school emphasizes intercultural competence, international exchanges, Model United Nations and multilingual, project‑based learning, including immersion and language projects. The campus comprises two buildings (an older block and a Neubau) organized on a Raumplan across basement, ground and first floors. Renovated in 2009, facilities include an after‑school care room and a cafeteria with a kiosk, supported by the Elternpflegschaft and Förderverein. Sports offerings include football, handball, basketball, badminton and windsurfing, with a Basketball AG. The natural sciences are strong—Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Informatics, Robotics and bilingual/MINT modules. Extracurriculars include AGs in music, theatre and art, a Chess AG, a Big Band and an active Model United Nations, with exchanges to China, Ireland, France, India and the Netherlands, language trips to Paris and Málaga, and Zaragoza exchanges, plus Berufsorientierung and broad student life.
