Two building blocks form the Leibniz Gymnasium Dortmund International School: an older structure and a Neubau (new building). The Raumplan shows three levels—the basement, ground floor, and first floor—with Neubau sections beginning with room numbers in the 3xx range. The foyer was renovated in 2009, giving the entrance a brighter, more welcoming space. A room is available for after-school care (Übermittagbetreuung). The Cafeteria appears in new splendor and serves lunch, with a Kiosk beside it; both are run with the support of the Elternpflegschaft (parents' council) and the Förderverein (booster club).
The school offers a broad sports program, including football, handball, basketball, badminton, and windsurfing. Basketball is featured as an activity within the sport offerings, such as a Basketball AG.
Natural sciences are a focus; the school offers Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Informatics, Robotics, and Natural Sciences. In the Erprobungsstufe, there are science modules and bilingual or modulare elements in subjects like geography, biology and others; in the Oberstufe, students can select core and advanced courses in Biology, Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics. Bili plus MINT combines bilingual instruction with a strong MINT foundation, using English-language modules in various subjects and a mathematics/tech focus. Schulleben includes a wide range of clubs and activities such as AGs in music, theatre, and art, as well as a Chess AG and a Big Band. Model United Nations is regularly active, and there are student exchanges with China, Ireland, France, India and the Netherlands. The Schleulerbibliothek (student library), Student Council, Yearbook, trips, and the Selbstlernzentrum (self-study center) are part of everyday life, alongside Sporthelfer and Theater activities. The school hosts a variety of cultural and language-related activities, including an English-language Drama Group and other international projects.
Leibniz Gymnasium Dortmund International School is a German Gymnasium offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in the upper secondary level and has been an IB World School since 2009. English begins in Grade 5, with a second foreign language (French or Latin) in Grade 7; from Grade 9, additional languages such as Chinese and Spanish are available, with English continuing as a core language.
