Languages

Language Provision

German and English are the languages of instruction from kindergarten through secondary. French is offered as a second foreign language from Year 6 and Spanish from Year 8 in secondary. In primary, language development in German and English is central, with a bilingual reading and writing curriculum and subjects taught in both languages. In kindergarten, the bilingual program uses immersion, with English and German spoken by staff and the 'one person – one language' approach.

Bilingual Teaching

English and German bilingual education is provided from kindergarten through secondary school. In kindergarten, English and German are spoken by native-speaking staff, following the 'one person – one language' principle, with language learning through immersion. In primary, each class has both a German-speaking and an English-speaking teacher who alternate instruction in English and German, with core subjects taught in both languages. In secondary, English and German are given equal importance as languages of instruction and interaction, with subject teaching usually in one language for the duration of one school year and efforts to develop bilingual terminology across disciplines.

Immersion Programs

Bilingual immersion begins in kindergarten with English and German spoken by native-speaking staff. The approach uses 'one person – one language' and language is spoken roughly equally, enabling natural bilingual development. In primary, maths and social studies are taught in both languages, and each class has both a German-speaking and an English-speaking teacher who switch to teach in English and German, ensuring daily bilingual immersion. In secondary, English and German are languages of instruction with French as a second foreign language from Year 6 and Spanish from Year 8, complementing the bilingual program.
Admissions

Admissions

1. Submitting the Registration Form: The registration form is filled out as a first, non-binding step. Registrations are accepted all year round. After receipt of contact details, the school checks the availability of places and contacts the family. If there is currently no place available in the corresponding grade, the child's name is added to the waiting list.

2. Consultation with the School Management: The educational offer matches the child's needs and an interview with a member of the school management is arranged. In preparation for the interview, an application for admission is sent to be filled out and returned. During the interview, questions are clarified and the educational concept is presented; a tour of the school is provided. If visiting in person is not possible, a video conference is offered.

3. Trial Days: The child is welcome to experience the SIS environment for one or two days. The trial days help ensure that the child feels comfortable and provide a first introduction.

4. Signing the School Contract: After receipt and positive assessment of the application for admission, the school contract is drawn up. The contract is signed and returned. Enrollment is completed upon receipt of the signed contract.
