The school uses a project-based, interdisciplinary learning approach across the IB continuum. The Middle Years Programme follows IB standards with eight subject groups and includes project work, a Personal Project with an exhibition, and Service as Action. The Diploma Programme provides university preparation with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. In 2025, 22 graduates achieved an average IB Diploma score of 33 points, with a top score of 41.
Art and design are core subject areas in the MYP and DP. The MYP lists Art and Design among eight subjects, and the DP includes Arts within its six subject groups. CAS and project-based work foster creativity, and libraries provide extensive resources to support arts and research.
English is the language of instruction across programs. The school uses an immersive German-English environment in the early years and provides language support for international students. German is taught systematically as a subject, with mother-tongue support for German-speaking students and DaZ for international learners.
After-school activities (ASAs) are offered in the Primary School. The school runs English-German holiday camps for ages 5 to 11, offering sports, excursions and language development. Model United Nations is part of student life and fosters debate and intercultural understanding. Extra tutorials and language support are available after school.
Service as Action (CAS) is embedded in the MYP with projects focusing on social, ecological or school environment. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award offers volunteering, physical fitness, talents and expedition. The Diploma Programme also includes CAS and university preparation and guidance.
CARE is the advisory programme in the Secondary School, focusing on Creativity, Agency, Responsibility and Empathy. The Diploma Programme includes university and career guidance and a Colleges and Careers program. The MYP includes a Personal Project and Exhibition to develop leadership and project management.
Mindfulness is integrated into daily routines, with a mindful start to the school day. Libby, the school dog, creates a relaxing atmosphere and can help reduce stress and promote well-being. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award supports personal development through volunteering, physical activity, and expeditions.
Strothoff International School is an IB World School located on a single campus in Dreieich, near Frankfurt, Germany. It offers the IB continuum (PYP, MYP, DP) integrated with the Hessian state curriculum (BEP). From Kindergarten through Year 12, instruction is in English and German; the early years are bilingual (60% English, 40% German). The Primary Years Programme is used in the early years, with a bilingual environment, and the MYP runs for Grades 6–10 in English with language instruction in German, Spanish or French. The Diploma Programme begins in MYP4/MYP5 and offers IBDP, HSDP, or Abi-IBDP. The campus houses Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary on one site and holds NEASC and CIS accreditation. Extra-curriculars are robust: sport clubs, arts and music, MUN, and service activities including CAS and Duke of Edinburgh. The school emphasizes project-based and cross-curricular learning with a warm international community. Facilities include a library and extensive STEM support.
