Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The European School RheinMain is part of the European Schools system and is one of 33 European Schools. ESRM opened in September 2012 on a brand-new campus near Frankfurt with modern facilities including a four-field sports hall. It is open to all interested students regardless of the employer of their parents. In September 2021, ESRM expanded by opening an International Baccalaureate branch within its Secondary School; the Middle Years Programme is offered for Grades 1-5 and the Diploma Programme began in September 2024. The European School curriculum leads to the European Baccalaureate, while the IB curriculum is taught in English for most subjects (except the second language).

Community

ESRM positions itself as a school and a community, with traditional European values underpinning respectful living and working together. Daily life is designed to be comfortable, varied, and free of tension. Visitors to ESRM are reportedly attracted by the atmosphere of mutual respect and support, and the aim to help each student realise their ambitions.

Parent-Teacher Association

The ESRM Parents' Association welcomes parents and offers information and help about school life and parent activities, with a goal to involve parents in a lively, strong parent community. The ESRM-Freunde (Friends and Sponsors) work with the school leadership, teachers, students, and the Parents' Association to fund exciting projects, create new learning and leisure opportunities, and strengthen the school community. The association is led by Tim Uhle (1st Chairman) and Janina Wiebols (2nd Chair, Events & Coordination). Regular activities include a virtual ordinary members' meeting in 2025 and projects such as redesigning the S6/S7 lounge, additional support for student initiatives, and donations such as books for the secondary and backpacks for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The ESRM-Freunde also runs membership and fundraising options to support school projects.
