The Lower School teaches Mathematics, German, Visual Arts, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Personal and Social Education, Language Arts, Music and Physical Education. The programme centers on inquiry with five essential elements—concepts, knowledge, skills, attitudes and action—and uses six trans-disciplinary themes of global significance. The school has the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for Grades 6–10, with eight subject groups: Language Acquisition, Language and Literature, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Design; the MYP emphasizes global contexts and the Learner Profile, and end-of-MYP assessments lead to the MYP Certificate with government recognition as the equivalent of Mittlere Reife under KMK conditions. History

The school has served the international and internationally minded community in Weimar, Jena, Erfurt and the wider state of Thuringia since 2000. It is a member of the Association of German International Schools (AGIS) and is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS). Academic Facilities

Technically well-equipped classrooms throughout the school buildings, with teacher and student tablets and laptops, a high-performance IT lab and a robust WIFI network. Older students can study Digital Design in the IB Middle Years Programme and take a technology-rich Film course in the IB Diploma Programme. Admissions

1. First Contact Form: Interested parents complete the 'first contact form' so ThIS has enough information about the prospective student(s) to invite them to an on-site appointment at the school; meeting online is possible if circumstances require it. 2. On Site Appointment: Both parents and children are invited to visit to get to know the facilities, the academic programme, the Principal, and current students. During the visit, families receive all the academic information about the school, the admission process and costs, and there is an opportunity to ask questions. Staff can assist in English, German and Spanish, and the school teaches in English. 3. Trial Day: Prospective students spend one full day for Lower School and three full days for Upper School, as ThIS students, to experience daily life, meet peers and gain an understanding of the ThIS approach to teaching and learning. 4. Evaluation and Decision Making: The Principals and the Director make the final admission decision following the trial day(s) and feedback from the teachers. 5. Conclusion of Contract: Once the contract is signed by both parties, the applicant officially becomes a ThIS student. ThIS is not a boarding school, admission does not confer the right to a student visa or visa advice, and applications are welcome throughout the school year.
