Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

CGS has Counselling Support Services that promote students' personal development, mental and social well-being, and learning. Experiential activities support social and emotional development at all levels. In the early years, preventive programs focus on emotion recognition and social skills; in later years topics include cyberbullying, identity, and career guidance. Classroom observation helps identify learning strengths and needs and inform support plans. The School Counseling Department includes School Psychologists, a Speech Therapist, an Occupational Therapist and Learning Support Teachers who collaborate with families and teachers to support students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

CGS has a Learning Support Programme that provides diagnosis, remedial education and targeted support for learners with learning difficulties. The programme supports the learner individually to bolster self-esteem, educates teachers on coping with learning differences, informs parents about the policy, and provides in-class monitoring and support in collaboration with teachers. The School Counseling Department addresses learning challenges and emotional, social and behavioral needs, and includes staff who work with families to develop appropriate support plans. Early identification and inclusive practices are embedded in CGS's inclusion framework.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

From age 3 to 6, the languages of instruction are Modern Greek and English; English is taught as an additional language. English as a Language Acquisition course is mandatory for all students, and from age 8 (Grade 3) students choose a second additional language (French, German or Spanish). In the Middle Years Programme, learners receive language teaching in at least two languages, with Modern Greek as Language and Literature and English as Language and Literature or Language Acquisition, and a second additional language from MYP2. In the Diploma Programme, English is the language of instruction, with other languages offered as Group 2 courses (English, French, German, Spanish).

Mental Wellbeing

CGS supports students' mental and social well-being through Counselling services that accompany academic learning. Experiential activities promote social-emotional skills across the school, with targeted support for emotional needs and pathways to additional assessment when necessary.

Safeguarding

CGS follows the Whole School Inclusion Policy to ensure safe, inclusive education and early identification of learning, emotional and social needs. The School Counseling Department provides support for learning, social, emotional, behavioral, medical, mobility and speech-related needs, and comprises School Psychologists, a Speech Therapist, an Occupational Therapist and Learning Support Teachers. The policy emphasizes collaboration with families and ongoing staff development to implement inclusive practices and accommodations in assessments in line with Greek Ministry of Education and IB policies.
