LA offers a glocalised, inquiry-driven curriculum that develops 21st-century thinking and communication skills. The Aerospace Education program provides a structured STEM journey for Years 4 to 9, integrating space science, engineering, coding and design thinking, with CubeSat projects and a space mission payload focus. The school also provides academic enrichment opportunities and competitions such as a Math Olympiad Club and coding and science clubs to deepen inquiry and problem-solving.
LA provides extensive arts and creative opportunities. Co-curricular Activities include Creative Visual Arts, Pearl Crafting, Japanese Origami, Arts Club and Crochet, and Visual Arts. Performing Arts are supported by Comedy, Drama Club, and Music programs, including Choir and Gospel Choir, plus LA Dancers and additional Arts clubs.
English is the major medium of instruction, and Putonghua is used for Chinese subject teaching. The curriculum aims to develop biliteracy and tri-lingualism plus one foreign language, with a high ratio of Native English-speaking Teachers. LA fosters international mindedness through inbound and outbound exchanges, virtual classes and pen-pal programmes, including visits by partner schools and STEAM activities; Outbound Exchange involves service projects such as Tanzania school-building and Vietnam volunteering, plus a NASA space camp and Balkans trips; Pen-pal Activities connect students with peers in multiple countries to explore scientific issues and sustainability; International Professional Exchange involves school leaders presenting curriculum innovations at international forums.
LA runs bi-weekly co-curricular activities across sport, visual arts, performing arts and languages. Sports include basketball, dodgeball, football, frisbee, lacrosse, table tennis, rugby, fencing, judo, kendo, taekwondo and more, with LA Dancers, Public Speaking, Chess Club, Aviation Club and Wellbeing among other options. The Outbound Exchange programme, known as the Global Classroom Initiative, provides global immersion experiences with service projects such as school-building in Tanzania and local volunteer services in Vietnam, plus a NASA space camp and Balkans trips; Inbound Exchange, Virtual Classes, Pen-pal Activities and International Professional Exchange support cross-cultural learning and global citizenship.
Leadership Training is part of Campus Life. Career and Life Planning offers career and education guidance, with a Career Counselling Team providing guidance on career exploration, post-secondary opportunities and individual counselling. In the Diploma Programme, CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is a required component, and LA is authorised to offer the IBDP with dual exits to DP or HKDSE.
Bi-weekly co-curricular activities cover sport, visual arts, and performing arts to support well-being. The sports offerings include Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, Football and Fencing, among others, with additional Wellbeing initiatives and various expressive arts opportunities.
ELCHK Lutheran Academy (LA) is a Direct Subsidy Scheme through-train school in Yuen Long, New Territories, offering a dual-pathway senior programme: IB Diploma (IBDP) and HKDSE. The school is an IB World School across PYP (authorized Jan 2018), MYP (Nov 2019) and DP (Sep 2014). Instruction for non-Chinese subjects is in English, with Chinese & Culture taught in Putonghua. Students may also explore a third language via ECAs, and French ab initio has been offered at the DP level.
