Social emotional learning (SEL) is part of the Inclusion and Learning Support Policy. ASI provides social and emotional support to all students, alongside academic, physical and cognitive support, to ensure equal learning opportunities. A school counsellor and an SEN facilitator lead the learning-support function, supported by a Learning Support Steering Committee. SEL is delivered through one-to-one counselling, as well as individual and group therapy, with desensitization and skills-building sessions offered across the school. The policy emphasizes a safe, inclusive environment that promotes academic, social and emotional development in alignment with IB principles.
ASI operates an Inclusion and Learning Support Policy based on IB standards to provide equal opportunities for students with learning differences. Identification begins at admission and continues through the year, with information gathering, diagnostic reports and medical history reviewed to determine learning support needs. A Learning Support Steering Committee, led by the head of school, coordinates with a counselor and an SEN facilitator to oversee academic and wellbeing support. Students with learning needs are enrolled in PYP, MYP and DP where their needs can be met, subject to available resources. Formal assessments guide individual action plans, and with parental consent targeted interventions and accommodations are implemented, including subject-specific support, English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, and adaptations for print disabilities.
English is the instructional language at ASI. English is the language of instruction across the Primary Years Programme, with Hindi offered as a home language and mandatory through Grade 5, and Spanish and French available from Grade 3. The school provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) support for students with language learning difficulties, using Brigance assessments to set reading and writing levels; sessions are delivered by a special educator and language experts as push-in or pull-out as needed. Mother tongue support is provided when needed, and language profiling is conducted across the school to tailor language learning across PYP, MYP and DP.
Mental wellbeing is central to ASI's Inclusion and Learning Support framework. The policy aims to provide academic, social and emotional support and to create a safe space for students to grow and develop. Support services include counseling and therapeutic options, with one-to-one counselling and group therapy available to address social and emotional needs. A Learning Support Steering Committee monitors wellbeing alongside academic progress and liaises with families as needed. Medical history is reviewed to consider social and emotional needs, ensuring tailored support is provided.
