Language Provision

English, Indonesian, Chinese, and French are offered as languages across BIS's IB programmes. In the PYP, Indonesian Civics or Studies deepen understanding of the local culture, and students may choose Bahasa Indonesia or Chinese as an additional language. In the MYP, Language and Literature is offered in Indonesian or English, while Language Acquisition includes Indonesian, French, and Chinese. In the Diploma Programme, Group 1 offers English Language and Literature and Indonesian Language and Literature, with mother tongue options such as Korean A (self-taught); Group 2 offers Chinese B, French B, Indonesian B, and English B, with ab initio options.

Bandung Independent School (BIS) is an International Baccalaureate continuum school for learners aged 2 to 18, offering the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. Located on a 1.2‑hectare campus just north of Bandung's city center, BIS serves expatriate and local families and educates nearly 200 students. The school is operated by Yayasan Komunitas Belajar Internasional Bandung as a non‑profit, guided by a mission, vision and values developed with involvement from parent volunteers. BIS is the only IB Continuum school in Bandung. The Primary Years Programme is provided in Elementary with daily English and Mathematics and a focus on developing international-mindedness; the MYP was authorized in 2022. The Diploma Programme includes Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service. Facilities include a Performing Arts Center with a theatre, a 160‑seat English‑language library—the largest in Bandung—and spaces for Maker, culinary learning and science; plus outdoor play areas, sport facilities and science labs to support inquiry and hands‑on learning.
