Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

BSJ places student wellbeing at the core of daily life. Wellbeing is defined as the confidence, resilience, and emotional security students need to thrive academically and personally. A comprehensive wellbeing framework includes pastoral support, student guidance, and responsive care that helps every child feel safe, seen, and supported. From day-to-day check-ins to structured support services, mental health and emotional wellbeing are prioritised alongside learning progress. This whole-school approach empowers students to participate fully in learning, build positive relationships, and flourish through every stage of the BSJ journey. The school also engages families through initiatives such as the Parent Wellbeing Series.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

BSJ offers a comprehensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme that supports non-native English speakers in fully engaging with the English-medium curriculum.

Mental Wellbeing

BSJ is committed to supporting the emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of its students. The Counselling Team provides a safe, confidential, and supportive space where students can navigate challenges, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies. Counsellors work across Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary, offering tailored support that meets the needs of each age group. Counselling brochures outline available services for Kindergarten, Primary, and Secondary. For further support or questions, contact the Counselling Team.

Safeguarding

BSJ maintains a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy. The contents of BSJ policies are updated regularly to reflect current safeguarding practice. BSJ offers a Speak Up Policy to report concerns. BSJ uses the Whispli platform for confidential reporting and provides reporting channels to designated recipients. Safeguarding and child protection are addressed within the BSJ community.
