Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

Primary education at Jakarta Montessori School expands Mathematics and Language and introduces Life in General. Children take responsibility for the care of their classroom and for their own learning, while teachers guide and facilitate their work in engaging ways. They explore topics across Science, History, Geography, Geology, Biology, Zoology, Astronomy, Archaeology, Botany, Physics and Chemistry through narrative exploration. A day's schedule begins with uninterrupted classroom work in the morning, followed by activity sessions such as Physical Education, Dance, Music, Art, Bahasa Indonesia, Religious Studies, PSHE, cooking, or working with Computers; field trips and local community projects extend learning beyond the classroom.

Arts and Creative

Creativity is taught through Computers, Drama, Art, and Music. In Pre-school, children begin using computers; in Primary they learn word processing and Internet research to support projects. Drama helps students gain confidence and express themselves, while Art engages them with patterns, textures, lines, shapes, and space to produce images and artefacts. Music exposes students to a range of forms from classical to contemporary, and includes composing with Montessori Bells and Tone bars and singing in harmonies.

Cultural and Language

The main teaching medium is English, and Bahasa Indonesia is taught to all students. In Pre-school Bahasa Indonesia is informal; in Primary it follows the Indonesian national curriculum; Upper Primary adds Indonesian lessons in preparation for National exams (optional in the final year). Geography and other core subjects explore world cultures, including customs, housing, diet, government, the arts and history, with traditional songs, dances and folk crafts studied as part of the curriculum. English and Indonesian are used across learning to support bilingual instruction.

Social and Hobbies

A day's routine includes uninterrupted morning work followed by post-lunch activity sessions such as Physical Education, Dance, Music, Art, Bahasa Indonesia, Religious Studies, PSHE, cooking, and Computers. There are a wide range of after-school activities available for students. Field trips and local community projects help students learn about their place and responsibilities in the wider community.

Community and Service

Field trips and local community projects extend learning beyond the classroom, helping students engage with their communities and understand their responsibilities within it. These experiences foster collaboration, social awareness, and practical application of classroom learning. The program emphasizes learning through real-world contexts and service-oriented activities within the community.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Wellbeing is supported through daily Physical Education and a variety of activity sessions, including Dance, Music and Art, as well as PSHE and Religious Studies. The schedule includes opportunities for collaboration, movement, and creative expression, with field trips and after-school activities contributing to holistic development.
