Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
1. Fill out a Basic Application. Registration is now open; if there are questions, contact a member of the MIS team. 2. Schedule a Personal Interview Day. It is best to discuss everything you need to know upfront before making a decision. 3. Experience a Day of School. Three trial days are offered free of charge for all grades to experience learning at MIS. 4. Eligibility Assessment. All students are encouraged to arrange a FREE trial session prior to registration. Students entering Grade 3 or above must complete the MAP test in Reading Comprehension, Language & Literature, and Math. Students who are three or more grade levels behind the grade they are applying for may be denied admission. 5. Age Eligibility. Students should be at least 3 years old and potty-trained at enrollment. Entrance ages for other grades are based on a student's age as of Oct 1 and academic records. 6. International Transfer. MIS strongly recommends that students coming from southern hemisphere schools (Jan–Dec calendars) repeat a semester of their current grade rather than skip a semester of the next grade; each case will be decided individually. 7. Note on Fees and Policies. There is no Registration Fee for Kindergarten 1 & 2; a Registration Fee is charged upon enrollment to Kindergarten 3 (including students continuing from Kindergarten 2). DP/MYP students should bring their own devices (MYP: iPad or MacBook; DP: MacBook). The Tuition Fee displayed is for one academic year and includes books, stationery, and learning materials; fees can be paid by semester or by term. A Capital Fee is charged annually to support development and maintenance. A sibling discount of 5% applies to the second child onwards in the same academic year. All figures are reference; the final amount is as stated in the invoice. For new enrolments, the Registration, Capital, and first-term tuition fees must be paid in advance before the student enters. DP students are subject to a DP Exam Fee and Pamoja Fee (if applicable). Please contact Marketing for current promotions and discounts.
Medan Independent School is a private day international school in Medan that educates students from ages 3 to 17. The school delivers an International Baccalaureate Continuum program—PYP, MYP and DP—integrated with an American curriculum aligned to US standards (AERO, NGSS, Common Core, ISTE) and taught within the IB framework. English is the language of instruction, with a focus on inquiry-based, student-centered learning within an IB context. Medan Independent School positions itself as the only IB Continuum School in Sumatra, reflecting its commitment to continuity across primary through pre-university education. The school traces its roots to a foundation serving expatriate families, gaining governance by a board of directors in 1976, moving to a purpose-built campus funded by Mobil Oil in 1981-82, and achieving DP authorization in 2017 with the first DP graduates in 2018-2019. About 60% of students are Indonesian, 3% have dual citizenship, and 37% are international, providing global opportunities.
