Yayasan Perkembangan Anak Indonesia (YPAI) was established in 1994 by five mothers with a dream of providing transformative education. The owners were the first teachers, building MIS brick by brick from a small house to multiple branches with thousands of students. MIS began in Mentari Preschool, which used to be Sunshine Preschool, starting with five students and five teachers. Mentari means “the Sun” in Indonesian.
MIS fosters a sense of belonging through a home-like learning environment and a strong school community. Its guiding principles emphasize nurturing Renaissance individuals who are practical, cultured, and informed, and that education nurtures both achievement and character. Families share growth stories through the 'Hear It From Our Family' section and testimonials. The MIS community operates across campuses in Jakarta, Bintaro, and Grand Surya, with activity updates shared on its social channels.
Mentari Intercultural School Bintaro sits on the edge of South Tangerang's Bintaro district, in a leafy campus that embraces nature as a learning ally. The school offers a blended international curriculum for continuity across year groups: National Curriculum, Cambridge (Primary), Cambridge IGCSE, and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. In Elementary, Cambridge and the National Curriculum are used; Junior High follows Cambridge IGCSE with the National Curriculum; Senior High culminates in the IB Diploma, with an integrated Cambridge pathway feeding into the IB framework. The school has grown from a small home into multiple campuses, guided by Yayasan Perkembangan Anak Indonesia since 1994. MIS is an Eco-School Candidate, promoting a breathable space and sustainable practices. Learning follows the Reggio Emilia approach, and a Positive Education framework supports wellbeing, empathy, and resilience. University Counseling helps students gain admission to universities at home and abroad, with fairs and career guidance across MIS campuses.
