The language of instruction is English, with French, Spanish and Indonesian integrated into the curriculum. The 6.5-hectare campus in Sinduadi features botanical gardens, an Olympic-size outdoor sport field, an athletic running track, and modern classrooms, with safety-minded grounds and a guarded front gate. The YIS Parents Association (YISPA) coordinates excursions and events, while a Leadership Team and IB Coordinators guide curriculum development for students worldwide.

Fees
Application fees

- One-time, non-refundable registration fee: USD 250.

Tuition fees (per year group / per term)

- Yogyakarta Independent School publishes school-fee policy details (discounts, payment timing, billing schedule and related charges) but does not publish a public, itemised tuition price list for each year group and per-term amounts on its public fee pages for the 2026/27 academic year (and no complete 2025/26 per-grade schedule was available on the public pages reviewed). A formal, itemised tuition schedule for the relevant academic year is issued by the school as part of the enrolment/invoice process.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- School fees are payable in advance. Parents may pay for the full year at the start of the school year and receive a 3% discount. Alternatively, parents may pay at the start of each term with an administrative charge of 3% applied for term-by-term payment. Due dates for payment are published annually in the YIS Academic Calendar.

- Annual re‑enrolment procedure requires a non‑refundable deposit of USD 1,000 to secure a place for the next school year; this deposit is deductible from the first fee payment for the new year. Failure to pay the deposit before the start of the next school year may put a student's placement at risk.

- Late-payment penalties: if payment is more than 15 days late, an administrative fee of USD 100 is levied; if payment exceeds 30 days, the student may be suspended and the school reserves the right to withhold student records and pursue further action.

Boarding fees

- Yogyakarta Independent School is a day school (no boarding programme). There are no boarding fees.

Other costs and recurring additional charges

- The following costs are charged separately from tuition and should be budgeted for in addition to school fees:
- School uniform costs.
- Examination or external exam charges (where applicable).
- Excursions, events and field trips.
- Extra-curricular activities and certain activity-related travel.
- Any other operational charges indicated on invoices.
These items are explicitly outside the basic tuition/operational fee bundle.

- Multi-child discount policy: when more than two children from the same family enroll at the same time, discounts apply — 10% for the third child, 15% for the fourth child, and 20% for the fifth child.

Refund information

- Registration fee: non-refundable. Annual re-enrollment deposit (USD 1,000): non-refundable but deductible from the first term payment for the next school year when paid on time. General school fees are not refundable once paid; the school's handbook states school fees must be paid on time and are not refundable. The school reserves the right to withhold records (reports, diplomas, certificates) where fees remain unpaid.

Fee payment options (invoice / payment handling and contact)

- The school publishes invoices and payment due dates via its administrative channels and provides contact details for the front office and admissions for billing matters. The publicly available fee-policy pages and handbook describe payment timing and consequences for late payment but do not list a detailed, public set of accepted payment methods and bank account details on the fee-policy pages reviewed. For billing queries and to obtain the official itemised tuition schedule and accepted payment methods, contact the YIS administration / front office as listed in the school contact information.

Brief note about missing numeric tuition rates

- A full, itemised breakdown showing numeric tuition rates per year group and per term for the 2026/27 academic year (or, where unavailable, for 2025/26) was not found on the school's public fee pages or handbook during review. The school's public materials document the fee policies, one‑time charges and timing (registration fee, re‑enrolment deposit, discounts, late penalties and which items are charged separately) but do not publish the per‑grade tuition figures in the public pages reviewed.
Academics

Yogyakarta Independent School teaches IB (PYP), IB (MYP), IB (DP) for students aged 3 to 18.

Curriculum

The school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum across Early Years to senior levels: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). The language of instruction is English; French, Spanish and Indonesian are also included in the program. Bahasa Indonesia/Indonesian Studies, Agama and Pancasila are integrated for Indonesian students during regular school hours. YIS is the only international school in Yogyakarta authorized to offer the complete IB education.

Higher Education Progression

The Diploma Programme (DP) is designed to prepare students for success in higher education. It includes six subject groups and core elements, with the Extended Essay promoting independent research and contributing to higher-education skills.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The PYP at YIS aims to develop students' academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values, as active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. Students are encouraged to be curious, creative, reflective, risk takers, questioners, problem-solvers and deep thinkers who work collaboratively. The program emphasizes inquiry-led education and a holistic approach to learning, integrating social and emotional development with academic growth. The school fosters a supportive, globally minded community that encourages empathy and collaboration across cultures.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school does not have special facilities to meet the needs of children with serious learning, emotional or physical challenges, and admission is at the school's sole discretion based on whether the student can participate in a regular program with minimal outside support.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English is the main language of instruction at YIS. Many students speak a different mother tongue at home, and English is a second language used at school. The school will admit children with limited English background only if their parents arrange extra English language lessons outside the school. For younger students this is usually adequate, but older students may need a more intensive effort to catch up to follow lessons in various subject areas.

Mental Wellbeing

The Primary Years Programme at YIS is designed to develop students' academic, social and emotional wellbeing, focusing on international-mindedness and strong personal values, as active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. The IB framework supports a holistic approach to wellbeing by promoting curiosity, collaboration and reflective thinking as part of learning.

Safeguarding

YIS maintains security measures to safeguard students: security guards are on duty around the clock, and CCTV is in operation. Visitors must register with the secretariat before entering and are generally escorted to staff; access to classrooms is restricted. The school has emergency evacuation procedures and an emergency alert system to notify parents via WhatsApp, email and SMS. Parents' rights and obligations include ensuring their child's safety during school hours and participating in parent-teacher communications.

Admissions

Admissions

1. Before the first registration, contact the YIS Admission Office by phone or email if you have questions about the school. Parents may also visit the YIS campus to meet staff or arrange an appointment with the YIS Principal. This early contact helps clarify programs and expectations before applying.
2. Complete the Enrollment Forms, which can be downloaded here or are available at the YIS Front Office. The enrollment forms initiate the admissions process and set the foundation for placement.
3. On the enrollment form, foreign parents and students must attach color scans of their current passport and resident visa (KITAS). Indonesian parents and students must attach color scans of their National Identity Cards (KTP) and recent passport photographs. For all students, copies of birth certificates, school records and transcripts from previous schools, and relevant health records must be attached. Original transcripts will be solicited directly by YIS Administration.
4. After submitting the enrollment forms and attachments, pay a one-time non-refundable registration fee of 250 USD. This payment is part of the enrollment process before placement can be finalized.
5. Following submission, an admissions procedure begins that considers parental and student expectations and the international curriculum offered by YIS. The outcome may be placement at the appropriate grade level, a recommendation for external tests, internal observations during a limited trial period, or a conclusion that the school cannot fulfill the expectations and suggests seeking another school.
6. Once placement is confirmed, parents sign a standard agreement on terms and conditions that apply to enrollment, including parents' rights, obligations and limitations, and the timely payment of school fees.
7. Upon placement, parents receive a copy of the YIS Parents and Students Handbook. Students will have the right to use a YIS email account and a YIS Student Identity Card.
8. English is the main language of instruction at YIS. Many students speak a different mother tongue at home, and English is a second language used at school. The school will admit children with limited English language backgrounds only if their parents arrange extra English language lessons outside the school. For younger students this is usually adequate, but older students may need more intensive effort to follow lessons.
9. Admission of students is at the sole discretion of the school. The school reserves the right to refuse admission to any student if an appropriate educational program and support services are not available, or if the teaching program does not match the expectations of parents and/or students. The school does not have special facilities to meet the needs of children who have serious learning, emotional or physical challenges.
