Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

Regular educational field trips are organized in line with the teaching programme, with about 5–6 trips per class per year to destinations such as museums, art galleries, scientific laboratories, company plants, multimedia centers, music and theatre events, farms and other places of interest. A TED-Ed Club provides a platform to spark curiosity and present student ideas in TED-style talks. Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that educates students about civics, current events, globalization and diplomacy, and develops leadership, problem‑solving and language skills.

Arts and Creative

Bruno Munari methodology art laboratories are a permanent feature, with weekly workshops led by an external specialist to develop structured creativity through hands-on practice. Orff-Schulwerk music is taught as part of the Music Programme, and ISBergamo has been an Associate School of the International Orff Schulwerk Forum Salzburg since 2017. Drama is an important part of the performing arts, with student performances during the year. The school participates in various arts projects and initiatives that showcase creative work and collaborations.

Cultural and Language

The Early Years offer English language full immersion to help children achieve English competence quickly. Mothertongue teachers support learning in a truly international, multilingual setting, with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme introduced from age three. The learning environment is influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach and follows the IB PYP framework, promoting holistic, inquiry-based learning across languages and cultures. The Primary Years Programme supports transdisciplinary learning that integrates social, emotional, physical and cognitive development.

Social and Hobbies

After‑school activities include Judo, FIRST LEGO League robotics, Fencing, Cheerleading, Kapla, Piano, Guitar and Drums, as well as TED-Ed Club, Model United Nations, Arts & Crafts and Science Club. These activities run after the school day and parallel the official curriculum, reinforcing social interaction and physical activity. TED-Ed Club and MUN help students develop presentation, collaboration and leadership skills.

Community and Service

IS Bergamo promotes a community spirit with maximum cooperation between parents and the school. Parent Ambassadors engage with current and prospective families, and Student‑Led Conferences give children the chance to present their year's work. The school also offers Open Lessons and Parent‑Teacher Conferences, and celebrates International Day to reflect its diverse community.

Leadership and Professional

ISBergamo is a proud member of Inspired, integrating life skills and public speaking into its educational approach. The Inspired model emphasizes leadership development alongside academics, arts and sports, preparing students for life beyond school. Extra-curricular activities including TED-Ed Club and MUN foster leadership and communication skills. The Penn GSE Entrepreneurship Academy is listed among Life at IS Bergamo offerings.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

The Lunch Menu is provided by an on‑site canteen that prepares nutritious meals using organic and seasonal produce, with Compass Group as the partner. In line with the Turnip Programme, nutritionists and chefs prepare freshly cooked food on-site, and the Turnip Game promotes healthy eating through activities and resources. Outdoor learning and outdoor play occur throughout the year, supported by welcoming outdoor spaces. Educational visits and trips are integrated into the curriculum to enrich daily life.
