Context: Shinagawa International School Seaside Campus serves Grades 1–3 and offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The language of instruction is English for most subjects, with Japanese language classes and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support available. The Seaside Campus is part of a three-campus system (Aoyoko Campus for Preschool–Kindergarten, Seaside Campus for Grades 1–3, and Samezu Campus for Grades 4–12). Admission steps are as follows:
1. Inquiry: Begin by asking questions about facilities, the IB curriculum, and the school's teaching philosophy. An Admissions Officer can respond with information about programs and arrangements, and guidance on next steps. While a school visit is helpful for understanding the environment, it is not mandatory at this stage.
2. School Visit: Arrange a visit to the school through the admissions page or the School Visit Reservation form. A visit is highly recommended to gain a comprehensive understanding of daily life, classrooms, and programs, but it is not required.
3. Application Submission: Complete and submit the application form along with the application fee of 40,000 JPY. Applications are accepted year-round with no fixed deadline. The enrollment process also requires submitting supporting documents as part of the application.
4. Interview and Assessment: After submission, applicants may be invited to participate in an interview and assessment. Students in Grade 1 and above will take a MAP test to evaluate English, reading, and mathematics levels. The admissions team reviews assessment results to inform decisions.
5. Admission Decision and Enrolment: Admissions decisions are communicated within a few weeks after the assessment. Acceptance letters and enrollment invoices are sent to successful applicants. Enrolment requires completing the enrollment form and paying the school fees; if not admitted, feedback is provided to help applicants understand the decision. Language of instruction is English for most subjects, with Japanese language classes and EAL support available.
Note: Applications for the Seaside Campus follow the same overall process described above, with placement aligned to age and grade eligibility. The Seaside Campus specifically accommodates early grades (Grade 1–3) at its location in Shinagawa.
Waitlist/pool: When a class is at full capacity, applicants may be placed in a waiting pool. The waiting pool is not ranked. If spaces become available, the Committee will reconsider candidates based on the balance of the class in terms of gender, nationality, English proficiency, siblings, and other factors. The waiting pool is valid for two years. This is reflected in the school's listing indicating a waiting list option.
Scholarships and discounts: The published materials describe sibling-based discounts on tuition. A 10% discount applies to the second and all additional siblings. A 30% discount is available for the third child, but only for current students. No other scholarships are described in the published admissions materials; there is no detailed information about need-based or merit-based scholarships on the official pages.
Shinagawa International School (SIS), founded in 2007, offers the full International Baccalaureate continuum: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). The Seaside Campus serves Grades 1–3 and forms part of the school’s PYP pathway across SIS campuses in Tokyo. Located in the Shinagawa Seaside area, the campus is supported by practical student services, including an organised school bus system with multiple routes and on-site daycare for younger children. Student life includes a structured afterschool programme with activities spanning arts, sports, academic clubs and service initiatives, as well as residential trips and swimming classes that are part of the school programme. SIS also operates a four-week Summer School, which features hands-on projects across science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, along with weekly field trips. These programmes reflect the school’s emphasis on inquiry-based learning and real-world experiences within the IB framework.
